View Full Version : Favorite "Chill" Bands?

caged_love

Hey, I have been getting into the folk/indie scene lately and have come to really appreciate the music that I have been finding. I love mellow music and to me the lyrics always seem to tell a story that has significant meaning, something that I really appreciate. Some of the bands that I have been listening to have been: Neutral Milk Hotel, Dustin Kensrue, Bon Iver, Right Away Great Captain, Manchester Orchestra, Gregory Alan Isakov and Fleet Foxes. What are some of your favorite bands that you find relax you...I'm always looking for suggestions to fill my music library with!

Some of Manchester Orchestra's songs, such as "I Can Feel A Hot One" and "Where Have You Been?" seem pretty relaxing to me. I dunno, I was really into metal and still love punk, so maybe that has a bit of an effect on my view of "chill"

Phil Collins! You can't leave him out, right? A good percentage of his music seems to provide a lot of synthesized ambience, simple rhythms, and is easily considered lame by many standards. However, songs like "In the Air Tonight" and "Another Day in Paradise" have that "chill" feel. I'm not even being sarcastic, for I own his greatest hits record.

Colbie Caillat > Anthony Green. I'm not much for scene vocalists with overly effeminate voices; when I'm in the mood for something like that, I'll just listen to that Craig Owens song that has guest vocals from Stephen Christian. If you dig Circa Survive, cool, but I personally find them to be rather overrated and unappealing.

EDIT: I should clarify that my problem isn't that Anthony sounds like a girl, but rather that I find his voice kind of grating. My comment could probably be misconstrued as sexist, so I'll just clarify now. Not my intent.
