It's an overpriced SG with one pickup.
Please, go do some research before even considering this as a good guitar. You will not become Alex Gaskarth by playing one. They are discontinued anyway.

One of my friends has one and it isn't that great, you'd get more guitar for your money in an SG standard.

Hahaha.
Backing this post. Even if they hadn't been discontinued, you'd be much better off purchasing a SG standard, if you're dead set on an SG model. That's been my main guitar for years and has never let me down. But I suggest seriously exploring other makes and models before deciding for sure what it is you want.
You want to do a whole lot more research when buying a guitar outside of just "this guitar looks cool I think I want one!". Not trying to be rude or anything but really, put some thought into it before you go hunting down an SG X on ebay or something. You don't want to get stuck with something you bought impulsively and then ended up dissatisfied with later on.

For the price it'll cost to find one used/on ebay/elsewhere, you might as well just get an SG standard, as many people have said. Much more diverse and more "bang for the buck." Or, my recommendation would be to get a Fender.

I would suggest Tokai or Edwards over Gibson. Their quality control is awful.
And if the kid wants an SG, getting a Fender is not gonna get him anywhere near what he wants tone wise (assuming he actually knows what he wants, or indeed what tone is) as the only real Gibson-esque models (Toronado) have been discontinued.

you better plan to pick up like 15 or so SG's then before you find a good one. gibsons quality control is awful.

Why aren't you listening to any of the advice given here? I'm sorry, but you're only 15, and age is a factor in how much you know about guitars, seeing as you've probably not been playing very long. Listen to the honest advice these guys are giving you, alot of them have been playing guitars(including Gibsons) for years now, and they're trying to prevent you from wasting your money.

Dude, go to Guitar Center or whatever store you've got in your area. Go in and play the guitars, and do not go in with some attitude against specific guitars or brands. You'll be very surprised what you find and what you end up liking. Don't look at a band like All Time Low and say "Well they play SG's! And my friend in my band plays one and it sounds good! So I should get one!" Sure, SGs aren't bad and it's going to sound good, as long as you get a decent guitar... Which one are you looking at now?
Anyways, by playing the other guitars you're going to end up seeing what feels and sounds best. You will be able to compare a variety of different guitars that sound different by many brands. Some are going to feel and sound better. You need to choose what sounds and feels best to you, not what you think will be more "pop punk" than something else. To say "I won't give into Fender" is just stupid. Fender makes great guitars, many better than the lower end Gibson SGs or Les Pauls. Pick up a Telecaster and play it. Check out the Fender '72 Deluxe Telecaster. They sound great, and are definitely real versatile. The pickups are comparable to the Gibsons and will most likely even give you a better clean sound. Before you decide what to buy, go play different kinds, and don't go in thinking you don't like a specific brand for no real reason. By getting an SG you won't be Alex Gaskarth.

my old guitarist had a fender
it was the tom delonge one
its great and he let me use it a few times
i wanted to get one
until i played an sg

Seriously, quit typing like that, it's confusing and stupid. Anyways, the Tom Delonge Fender guitar really isn't that good either. It's just a Strat with an invader pickup. Nothing complicated. Nothing worth buying. All Time Low can be one of your bigger influences, that's fine and everything, but don't buy a guitar because OMG ALL TIME LOW USES IT! That's just stupid. Find what YOU like, don't take what another band likes and just assume you like it more than anything else. Check out the 72 Telecasters, tons of pop-punk bands play that too (if you're really that worried about bands playing the guitar, which you shouldn't be). They sound great.

So is the Tom Delonge one. You're paying for a lot, and getting nearly nothing in return.

idk man, theyre not expensive, and for pop punk they hit the nail on the head. i have one in sea foam that i picked up for 100 bucks. the kid is pissed because as soon as blink got back together they sky rocketed in value, but its all about fun colors and bridge pickups so i feel this kid in his shit. i want an sg-x too. its all in the cosmetics. but on your guys side of the argument, with the prices most of them fetch, i would never opt for one OR a tom delonge. i get my sg standard in 3 weeks on my birthday and cant wait.

For $100 it's a great guitar. No idea why someone would let it go for that much... It's a Fender with an Invader pickup. It's worth a lot more than that. However even still, it's great for pop punk, but it's not a very versatile guitar and you're basically paying for the name on it.

i can kind of relate to you in the way that you want a guitar that stands out, that represents you. if you get an sg-x, youll never hear the end of this alex gaskarth shit even when you're playing shows. and youll get tired of it. it might sound like a stupid reason, but i think its valid. you should try finding another guitar that defines you, or find a color you want and look for that. I found a guitar that i fell in love with and it stands out and i feel it really represents me. its an epiphone les paul deluxe model. i believe theyre discontinued, but its this baby blue color "sparkle blue" and although the sound isnt fantastic, its good and i love the guitar. some people dont think cosmetics should matter, but for some people it does. and i think my guitar has the perfect balance of both for me.
in essence what im saying is, find your own sg-x if that makes any sense. .... its late this might not make any sense at all

I WANT A GIBSON SG X
I DONT KNOW WHERE TO FIND THEM
apparenly i bookmarked this to comment in a while ago, but anyways
I own a SG-X. Here is what i will tell you.
I love mine. I love that is a minimalist guitar with one pick up/tone/volume. I love that it has a 24 fret neck. I love that it's pretty rare (i have a coral pink one)
It gets the tone I desire, but I have played guitar long enough to know what I want and my guitar is set up correctly and plays wonderfully. Its also in near mint condition, I got extremely lucky that my guitar was bought for a guys daughter to learn on, the daughter had no interest in playing so it was put in a case and then put into the closet with the guys other cases til i bought it
I love my guitar, I wouldn't sell it for anything.
but the downsides.
They are fragile and neck heavy
They are a minimalist guitar, unless you are confident you will get the tone you want out of it, you will be disappointed.
Buying it on ebay doesnt allow you to test it out, they are now 12 years old, a ton of shit can go wrong in 12 years that you can't tell from pictures online. even if everything is perfect it might just not feel right to you and you wont want to play it, my roommate has a jag that he loves, its a beautiful guitar and sounds great, but it feels unnatural to me. Any guitar you buy should feel like its the best thing you have ever played.
for the money you would likely spend to get one on ebay or from a forum member looking to sell you could get a much better guitar, they were a entry level guitar when they were new, now they are going for at least twice the original price and will continue to rise since they are in demand and rare. If you are going to spend 7-800 on a guitar, go to a vintage guitar store in your town and try out all the cool shit they have. If you want a new one, get a SG Standard. You have a lot of options to get something a lot better than a 12 year old guitar.
If you want the look of a SG-X, you can get a used Epiphone SG-400, (i think thats their good sg) get it refinished by a local guitar shop in your town and buy a SG-Jr pickguard and then you have a quality custom guitar for 700 instead of the 800+ the sg-x are going for on ebay.
As for the All Time Low comments.
Apparently a bunch of random kids think you want to be some dude from a band who happens to play a sg-x by having one, thats fucking ridiculous. if you care about what some random dicks at shows/online think about your guitar, that sucks, Fuck them. It's your guitar, buy what you like looking at and makes you want to pick it up and play
