View Full Version : My friend
Hi there. I'm playing the guitar in a punk band. We recently lost our drummer, but we asked one of my friends to play drums. He didn't think it was a good idea, and didn't want to. In the end, he agreed to join us for one performance. He had just played drums a little, but turned out to be very good. I can see that he has a talent, but the problem is...he is just too lazy. He says it's not fun, and that he doesn't want to. Is there anything I can do or say to encourage him? I wouldn't like to see a talent like that go to waste!

Tell him about the money and the rock star life. Seems to motivate most people.

It shouldn't though. To me, being in a band should be about the music.

I agree.
And if the guys not having fun, then you can't make him stay.
OP, how long has he been in the band?

if he doesn't wanna play, he doesn't wanna. how old is he, and also, what are his other hobbies? maybe he's got a social thing, gets nervous in front of people.

It should be about the music but most of these bands are out there for the money. People are motivated by greed.

If he doesn't really want to play, you need to find a new drummer because although he may be talented, he won't be beneficial to the band.

If he's good and the performance went well, there's probably more to it than he's just "lazy" and doesn't find it "fun". Possibly he's nervous, doesn't want to make commitments, prefers another musical direction, etc.

Tommy Lee. That's why.
You should just play without a drummer. It'll be unique and edgy

just line up the smorgasbord of poon he's likely to get from your groupies because you obviously will have bulk groupies because you're obviously an awesome punk rock band
Well, he seems to have fun when we practise. He don't have any other hobbies...exept for playing video games. He plays too much videogames, but he is in a very good shape though. I think the problem may be that he is a little nervous about performing and stuff, because he has spent so much time for himself.
