At the start of the decade I loved pop-punk and by the end of the decade, not much has changed because I still love pop-punk. I am not saying these are the best records from this decade, but I am saying that these are my favourites. I’ve listened to these ones a lot and they’ve had an impact on me in some way:

Sum 41- All Killer No Filler
Record Label: Aquarius/Island
Release Date: May 8, 2001
Listening to this record automatically transports me to the start of this decade when I was in elementary and junior high when they were at the height of their popularity. As I got older and discovered more bands, I pushed them aside and realized just how cheesy the lyrics could be, but regardless, I will always have a little spot in my heart for this band. I still love "Rhythms" and Dave always could shred. Oh, and these guys were my first show ever too.

Alkaline Trio – From Here to Infirmary
Record Label: Vagrant
Release Date: April 3, 2001
The first Alkaline Trio record I bought and still probably my favourite just because it’s fun to listen to. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to this with my speakers turned all the way up. There are lots of bands that sing about blood and corpses, but I think this one does it better than most.

Green Day – Warning
Record Label: Reprise
Release Date: October 3, 2000
While I don’t hate American Idiot, I prefer Warning and feel it’s an incredibly underrated part of the Green Day catalogue. “Minority” is one of my favourite singles from this band and other tracks like “Church on Sunday” and “Macy’s Day Parade” are awesome too. Above all else though, it’s simple. I’d rather listen to this than any rock opera.

The Gaslight Anthem – The ’59 Sound
Record Label: SideOneDummy
Release Date: August 25, 2008
This is one record that I got into shortly after it came out. I think the reason why I’m still spinning it all this time later is just because it’s a refreshing breath of air compared to a lot of bands and it appeals to people from all age groups. Not that it’s surprising though. “High Lonesome Sound,” “Old White Lincoln,” and “The Patient Ferris Wheel” are excellent songs.

Modern Life is War – Witness
Record Label: Deathwish
Release Date: June 7, 2005
The one hardcore band that really stood out to me this decade was Modern Life is War. There’s just something about this band that jumped out at me. I like the vocals, lyrics, everything. I can only imagine how good they were live and it’s a shame they broke up before I got a chance to see them.

Broadway Calls – Broadway Calls
Record Label: Smallman/State of Mind
Release Date: July 9, 2007
There have been a lot of new pop-punk bands popping up this decade and I’d have to say that Broadway Calls is certainly one of the better ones. I heard their self-titled debut in the summer of 2007 and I was immediately blown away. It’s one of the few times I’ve picked something up and fell in love with it in one listen. This is seriously a shining example of how I think pop-punk should be done.

Motion City Soundtrack – I Am the Movie
Record Label: Epitaph
Release Date: June 24, 2003
I was really, really late on this band even though I saw the video for “My Favorite Accident” on MuchMusic and while I meant to pick a copy up, I always left the store with something else. But once I listened, I was so glad that I did and I went out and bought their other releases too. I think this one remains my favourite though. It’s like the perfect summertime pop record to me.

Brand New – Deja Etendu
Record Label: Razor & Tie
Release Date: June 17, 2003
I ended up getting this CD with the money I got for graduating from grade 8. It never really stuck with me though and I think a big part of that was just because of my age. Your Favorite Weapon got a lot more spins, until I got older. That’s when I really fell in love with the new Brand New and I still listen to it regularly.

The Matches – Decomposer
Record Label: Epitaph
Release Date: September 12, 2006
Yet another band I was late on, but not nearly as late as MCS. The vocals took a little getting used to, but one day they just clicked and I fell in love with this record. It’s fun, quirky and this band has created a sound all of their own in many ways. I love the guitars on “Clumsy Heart” and the chorus from “Sunburn Vs. The Rhinoceros” still gets stuck in my head.

Fall Out Boy – Folie à Deux
Record Label: Island
Release Date: December 16, 2008
I heard Fall Out Boy for the first time in 2004 and since then, I’ve been hooked and they've been my favourite band. Don’t get me wrong, I love Take This To Your Grave and that was my introduction to FOB. Regardless though, this band really only gets better with age and that’s part of why I love them so much. I remember when "America's Suitehearts" was released and I thought that this could be their best yet. Simply put, Fall Out Boy are capable of a lot more than what they were doing in 2003 and Folie à Deux proves that flawlessly.
