Argento was never officially a band member, but in Deep Red and Suspiria, he took a hands-on, collaborative approach to recording.

Awesome soundtrack for a classic film.

Yep, and that Cage album I rec'd has a track that samples it.

My friend asked me a similarly open-ended request, and I gave her the following list of favorites and name-drops. It has some stupidly obvious albums, but hey, you can always just skip those ones if you'd like.

dc Talk - Jesus Freak
The National - Boxer
Bradley Hathaway - A Mouth Full of Dust
Hands - Creator
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Taylor Swift - Fearless
mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister
Galaxie 500 - On Fire
U2 - The Joshua Tree
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Kanye West - The College Dropout
Project 86 - Songs to Burn Your Bridges By
Weezer - Pinkerton
Regina Spektor - Songs
Nirvana - In Utero
David Crowder*Band - A Collision
Labradford - Mi Media Naranja

Beyond this, I back whatever IWasaCamera and kearns1tm suggested, even though I haven't heard those albums myself, because their recommendations very (if ever) end up being duds.

Huh. Interesting. My buddy just got the version of Suspiria with the soundtrack and the liner notes list him as playing instruments and co-writing. They let him have a lot of involvement for somebody not in the band. Either way, they made some awesome music.

"The Waiting" was a huge hit for a reason, man. No shame. My fav track on that is prob "Insider" with Stevie Nicks. Nice to see some Tom Petty love.

For Suspiria and Deep Red, yes, he was very involved in the arrangements, but never worked with them before or after. I'd hardly call him a member if it's simply for "two soundtracks" and nothing more, considering how prolific they are. Argento is also only a novice at instruments (he was more trying to capture mood/ambiance).
