I'm a guitar player but since the jam sessions have moved to my place, I now have a drum set to mess around on.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what seems to be the "standard" punk beat if there is such a thing.

Specifically, I would like to learn to play the fast beat in 'Vincent' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hEME7fC-S4)by NOFX.

It would be amazing if any of you drummers could communicate how to play this! Thanks

For the fast beat in that song that starts around 0:16 sounds like Erik's just playing this:

Cymbal-|-X---X---X---X---|
Snare--|-----X-------X---|
Bass---|-X---------X-----|

Does that make any sense to you ?

generic punk beat? 16th note beat at 180 bpm, bass drum x 1, snare x 1, bass drum x 2, snare x 1, with qaurter or 8th or 16th note hi hats, rinse repeat!

anyone know how you would read a punk beat from a sheet music book?
