should i bring my xbox 360 to school with me in the fall? i'll be in the dorms for my first year and although i play it sometimes i'm not that much of a gamer. is this a good idea?

You're not gonna need a 360 at school. Bring a cheaper one.

I had my XBOX that we played a ton when Madden came out. Then second semester we didn't as much and it sat around.
Plus my roomate kept playing video games all day and watching tons of TV and it drove me crazy.

Depends...since you're not a gamer, it's probably not a bad idea, since you can use it to kill some free time. If you were a gamer, I'd say leave it, because I had a hallmate who played video games straight to a 1.2 GPA his first semester, and even worse his 2nd.

it's college... you need to bring it... I'm not a huge gamer either but I play shit with my roommates a lot, plus if your roommate finds out you have a 360 and you didn't bring it, he just might smack you
it's either video games or taking a nap all day

its a necessity
Meh, I wouldn't bring it. I'd go out and have fun instead of being couped up in my room.

Yeah, I mean, god forbid you don't spend ANY time in your dorm when you're not asleep.

i'd bring it. some of the best friends I made my freshman year of college were people who played halo with me.
i know tons of people that had gaming systems. If you turn it on, throw a couple controllers up, open your door, people will just stroll in to play.
Its one way to meet some people. Sometimes you get bored and need a break, video games work wonders.
I'm not a "gamer" but I still played my roommates 360 sometimes, and my PS2 sometimes. Guitar Hero makes things fun.
Just don't be like my last roommate and have your GF watch you play the original mario while she lies on your bed.

I personally would bring it.
But it could lead to annoyance.... like during freshman year, my roommate would start playing GTA at about 10:30 in the morning, take a break for lunch, then come back and play until 5:30. Then he would watch the O.C.
He literally took weeks off just to play that damn game and only occasionally went to class. It drove me crazy...
Yeah, he failed out of college.

I brought my N64 but never hooked it up.
Mostly because my dorm room was tiny as hell, I had no TV, and had planned to buy one but realized there wasn't really anywhere to put it anyway.
Hooked it up on the community TV a few times though...

bring it. there is more free time than you think and unless you are going to be wasted every night (def. possibility) it will be a great time killer. Its also a great way to miss lots of classes.

holy shit i read that and relived my freshmen year.
anyway i didnt play much videogames in the dorm we were always doing basketball and football and shit. it was great i actually forgot about videogames and tv. although when we did play videogames it was usually a sega genesis or nintendo with some kick ass old games.....but hey im really obsessed with my 360 now so who knows. i say take it but dont expect it to play it too often unless your dorm sucks (then the 360 will save your boring life)
as long as your not playing WORLD OF WARCRAFT, you're fine, i had a kid i knew who dropped out of penn because he didnt go to class because of that satan game, it ruins lives ya know, ruins lives.

In one of the dorm rooms down the hall, the guys moved all their beds into one room sleep in and the room they used to sleep in became like a living room where they had three tvs, xbox 360, xbox, ps2 and all that stuff.
it was so rad. i spent a ton of time down there.

well i have 2 roommates. one of them seems pretty cool but the other one is a tall skinny baller kid. who is obsessed with wrestlemania, has way to many shirtless pictures of guys on his myspace and believes american pie and beavis and butthead are the greatest things to ever hit a screen.

yeah but your roomate playing video games all the time and possibly keeping you awake is probably the least annoying thing that will happen to you when living in the dorms. back when I did it, I put up with way worse.

seriously, i'm living proof of that. that's all my friends that didn't go home for the summer want to do is sit around and play WoW. One of my friends would actually leave parties early (and i'm talking about at like 8) because he had guild meetings and shit.
WoW is like crack but you don't get high.

look at it this way, you're going to end up doing something during your downtime. nobody studies that much....it's either video games or something else. where I go to school, if you're not playing video games, you're playing poker or something else that costs money. You're already going to be broke most likely, so if you have a system, you'll have something to do with your friends that is cheap.

I'm dorming in the fall, I commuted my first two years but I went to visit friends at colleges and decided I want to dry dorming for at least one year, but anyway, we'd start playing Halo or NHL 06 in Ithaca and leave the door open and people would come out of the woodwork and want to play. But we also made room for girls and partying and all the kids there got their schoolwork done. So as long as you set your priorities straight, bringing a video game system to college is a fun and great idea, just don't get sucked in.
