View Full Version : Neco z Alenky (Alice)
Not only am I thankful that I just saw this awesome movie, but also for the fact that I never saw it as a child.

This extremely short review pretty much sums it up although the close-ups it mentions didn't really bother me: http://www.filmcritic.com/misc/emporium.nsf/reviews/Alice-%281988%29

Svankmajer is a crazy fuck.
Have you seen this? Doesn't even feel like a movie; I honestly felt like I was watching someone's nightmare. Absolutely loved it.

I haven't. I've only seen Faust and Darkness/Light/Darkness.

I'm surprised...I kind of thought you've seen everything this world has ever produced ;-)
You should give this a shot. It's available for instant stream on Netflix, if you have an account. Don't be put off by the fact that it's dubbed--it just sort of adds to the creepiness, ha.
Oh and it references The Shining which automatically makes it worth watching.

Damn, I thought it was wonderful. Like I said in one of my posts above, I didn't even feel like I was watching a movie...Haven't experienced something like that since I first saw Eraserhead! Haha.
Oh and that was definitely an interesting article.
where is this reference?
Haha watch this clip

Intentional or not, IMDB also lists this scene as a reference to The Shining.

haha, wow. and yeah it definitely is an experience.
I liked that everything I doubted about the movie before watching it (particularly the dubbing and stop motion) ended up just adding to the creepiness.

Seemed like you didn't by saying that it may have been an unintentional reference. Onward.

Someone put the audio from The Shining to that scene--doesn't mean it's an intentional reference by the director (although I'm sure it is).

I didn't finish it yet, but I really enjoyed what I saw. The stop-motion is very well-done.
