the classical music station is the only one i listen to (i usually just listen to music off of my ipod). the past three years of music theory classes really fed this appreciation haha.

i think taking a class like theory or music appreciation really helps you enjoy or....appreciate classical music more.
that and/or playing an instrument helps too.

I have the Sleeping Beauty Waltz on my ipod. I was the epitome of pariah in elementary school so jazz and classical music were my favorites growing uo.
Tchaikovsky has been my favorite for a while.

that doesnt really count as liking a genre then...It'd be messed up if people didnt even like the four songs they were naming though.

well, i see it a lot. you can't really claim to be a fan of something unless you know plenty of examples of it, and if you really cared enough to indulge a particular genre you'd probably be familiar with composers other than the most popular, by making an actual effort to seek out more of that which you enjoy. claiming to be a fan of classical music and then only really being immediately familiar with beethoven's "moonlight sonata" and "fur elise" and mozart's "sonata in C major" is like claiming to love electronica, but the only electronic album you're really familiar with is radiohead's Kid A; it simply doesn't work like that. im not suggesting that these people should answer "no" in this thread but it is intriguing that people are so overzealous to participate, because i sincerely doubt, based on the nature of this community, that most of the people who are involved in this thread are any more familiar with classical music than a child is familiar with the beatles. a lot of people really jump at an opportunity to claim to be fans of classical music despite limited exposure, because its supposedly what "intelligent" music fans listen to, when really they should drop the pretense considering it's perfectly understandable for someone not to be all THAT interested in music from centuries ago, especially if they weren't raised on it.

I think the "pretense" is that because someone knows more about classical that they love it more. Worship in your own way. Some people are explorers, some enjoy a few songs in every style. Just because I'm of the exploring camp too doesn't mean I'm going to say other people don't like the music they like.

I've explored some of the staples & enjoyed much of it. I'm yet to really dig into many modern artists, or many periods outside of the well-known. I am always looking for pieces that are a little out of the ordinary though, something a little exciting. My favourite somewhat classical piece is actually when some of the Split Enz boys (Tim Finn, Neil Finn, Eddie Raynor) got together with other well known New Zealand singer/songwriters & re-recorded various Split Enz singles in an incredibly rearranged fashion using the accompaniment of the New Zealand Sympathy Orchestra, with amazing results.

I like classical music. I'm not even going to lie and pretend that I can tell the difference between Mozart and Beethoven, but it's really nice to listen to when I'm working. I usually get distracted by singing the songs or doing other useless shit when I work and listen to music, but that doesn't usually happen when I'm listening to classical. All I know is whenever Moonlight Sonata movement one comes on my shuffle, I always stop and listen to it. That's more I can say about any other song I listen to.

Voted yes... Not saying I listen to it ALL. THE. TIME. But I do enjoy painting to Beethoven's 9th and sometimes 5th and I listen to Dennis Brain fairly regularly, being a French horn player x] It's very relaxing, even if you might not know the difference between Bach or Mozart... Plus, jazz falls pretty close to classical, right? Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue is GODLY... such gorgeous music
