The staff recommendations for the week can be found below (Click "Read More" to view all of them):
Jason: Scott's an idiot: GO FRANCE, GO ZIDANE!
Steve: I recommend everyone check out Sleeping at Last (http://myspace.com/sleepingatlast) (album of the year so far), Amestory (http://myspace.com/amestory), and Some By Sea (http://myspace.com/somebysea). Oh, and watch the World Cup final and root for France - Zidane deserves to win this.
Paul: Explosions In The Sky (http://www.myspace.com/texasband) and Kerouac's The Dharma Bums.
Russ - For the lazy folk out there: Askeleton (http://www.myspace.com/askeleton), Foreign Islands (http://www.myspace.com/foreignislands), Cordova (http://www.myspace.com/cordova), and Hella (http://www.myspace.com/hellaband). If you want more of an explanation on these go here (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=3730083#post373008 3).
Greg - Deltron 3030 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deltron_3030) and The Early November (http://www.absolutepunk.net/artists/showlink.php?do=showdetails&l=1767&catid=2<r=E) are my picks today. Deltron is phenomenal and TEN has an album coming out on Tuesday. I also recommend watching France win the World Cup.
Garett - As Tall As Lions (http://www.purevolume.com/astallaslions) are putting out one of the year's best this summer and The Early November (http://www.purevolume.com/theearlynovember) record really took me by surprise this week. I love the third disc. Also, Cobra Starship (http://www.myspace.com/cobrastarship) is glorious.
Drew: Bayside (http://www.baysiderocks.com), Thom Yorke (http://www.theeraser.net), Imogen Heap (http://www.imogenheap.co.uk)
Scott: Sinking Ships (http://www.myspace.com/sinkingships), The Jealous Sound (http://www.purevolume.com/thejealoussound). America and France hate each other for a reason, soccer shouldn't be an exception! Go Italy!
Ryan: The new Umbrellas (http://www.myspace.com/umbrellas) album, Hometown Anthem (http://www.myspace.com/hometownanthem), and some sleep. Go for it.
Katie: Hand Me Down Buick (http://www.myspace.com/handmedownbuick) will rock all your faces, if you give them a chance!
Jon F: I'm with Katie, listen to Hand Me Down Buick (http://www.myspace.com/handmedownbuick)
Melissa: Anberlin (http://www.myspace.com/anberlin), Scenes from a Movie (http://www.myspace.com/scenesfromamovie), and Gym Class Heroes (http://www.myspace.com/gymclassheroes) have all had a heavy rotation on my ipod this week. Oh, and as always, give a little love to The Graduate (http://www.myspace.com/thegraduaterock) and Park. (http://www.absolutepunk.net/park)

Good call on Some by Sea and, of course, EITS. I know Ryan has had it as his avatar for a while now, but I never bothered to give it a listen until yesterday and it's pretty good. Now for my recommendations:
Page France (http://www.pagefrance.net/) - I fell in love with "Come, I'm A Lion" this weekend, but "Hello, Dear Wind" remains my favorite album of theirs. The two EP's they released this year, "Pear" and "Sister Pinecone" finds them venturing into slightly different territory, but it works...really well. I think this band is a music lover's dream. They released two full-lengths last year and two more EP's this past February. Moreover, lead male vocalist/lyricist Michael Nau released a set of unreleased material under the name "Apple Shaped Songs" over the course of the past few months and he has teamed up with female vocalist Whitney McGraw in their side-project The Broadway Hush (http://myspace.com/thebroadwayhush) which shares some similarities to the main project, but finds Whitney showcasing her voice a bit more. On top of it all, they're extremely nice people who deserve your support so if you like what you hear go out and support them in any way possible. For fans of a mix of Sufjan Stevens, Rilo Kiley, Belle & Sebastian. It took a few weeks (and seeing them perform) to love this band the way I do, but it's well worth the time you invest. I think this band it doing practically doing everything right and should be looked up on as an example to younger bands. Highest Recommendation. Myspace (http://myspace.com/pagefrance)Purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/pagefrance)
Tilly & the Wall (http://www.tillyandthewall.com/tatw/index.html) - The sun's out and we all want some upbeat, catchy music, right? Tilly & the Wall has released an excellent follow-up to their acclaimed debut "Wild Like Children" in "Bottoms of Barrels". The best thing is that they're on Team Love Records, which allows for the FREE download their bands' albums. Aside from Page France, Tilly & the Wall has been comprising the majority of my weekend music. Download: Bottoms of Barrels (http://www.team-love.com/headphones/releases/tl09/) Wild Like Children (http://www.team-love.com/headphones/releases/tl01/)
Ray LaMontagne (http://www.raylamontagne.com/) - I'll never understand why James Blunt is as popular as he is when artists like Ray LaMontagne walk the earth. I've said this before and I'll repeat myself here: James Blunt is a poor man's Ray LaMontagne...and that is an understatement. If you found yourself cringing at the James Blunt reference, I apologize. Yes, LaMontagne does the acoustic singer-songwriter bit but with a voice (that I'm almost tempted to describe as gruff, but in a good way) that can fill an auditorium. His new album "Until the Sun Turns Black" is set to be released August 29th and you can here his first single, the gentle "Can I Stay", on his myspace page. Like most of his work, it's better experienced live as no recording so far has done this man's voice wonderful voice the justice it so-badly deserves. For fans of: Damien Rice, Iron & Wine, Van Morrison. Myspace (http://myspace.com/raylamontagne)
I've done enough writing for today, so that's all I'll leave you with. Hope you enjoy.

The Audition, if you haven't already.
Needless to say, Dog Problems.
For a bit more local stuff, for me at least - try Failsafe (http://www.myspace.com/failsafemusic). They've been compared to At The Drive-In, but you should give them a go whether that's your bag or not, rare to find a British band of this genre stearing clear of the old fake American accent on vocals.

and i listen to Saves The Day, The Format and Angels and Airwaves daily. I know a lot of people around here come down hard on the Angels and Airwaves cd but i think it's one of the greatest things i've heard in awhile. It's the perfect driving music (or flying if you're ever on a plane) and it just gets me so fuckin' pumped up like i could do anything if i put my mind to it... I listen to this cd every single day so i can get ready to take on the world...hahahaha...kinda weird considering that's what Tom wants it to do. Meanwhile everyone's calling him a Loony. Meh, whatever to each their own. I'm with you Tom....

Oh, and, Zidane...it's something of a shame that such a talent will be remembered for this, his final act on the world stage. Italy looked so poor in extra time that it probably cost France the World Cup.

you know that if Zindane and Henry were in the game for penalty kicks, France would have won. There is no way that either of them would have missed, and the D bag that did miss wouldnt have been shooting in the first place.

Lol, even here in the UK, about two hours after the game a convoy of about six cars sped past my house beeping their horns and waving Italian flags.
