one year 4 million...I don't get the point of it. He's old and he was amazing with the wings...recent trend with the Rangers is big name stars come to NY in order to suck (cept for Jags).

after not making the post season for nearly a decade...still being in the early stages of a rebuilding period...after breaking several team records and having a strong candidate for the Hart trophy...oh ya, we fucked up. Our failure near the end had nothing to do with our blue line...it had to do with losing our goaltender to injuries as well as some key forwards and Kasparitis...we had a great season and injuries killed us at the end..we also faced the team which everyone agreed was the team no one wanted to face in the offseason.

alright alright take your shots, after an abysmal second round ouster i guess you have to grab hold of the one bright spot the devils had in the playoffs..but
you're going to put the rangers' loss on the defense? lundqvist goes down at the end of march, as well as kaspairatis and jagr in the playoffs. 12 rookies were in the lineup for game 2.
defensive roster:
kaspairatis-malik-rachunek-tyutin-ward-roszival
with staal in the system.
devils defense:
hale-lukowich-martin-matvichuk-rafalski-white
i'll take our six over yours any day.

rafalski martin and white are better than any of your defensemen.

hey man you were the one bitching before i said anything, bringing up our blueline in a thread you started about shanahan. what that had to do with anything i dont know.
edit: and i'm high most of the day, but not right now, and i still like our six. but i'll take lou or brodeur.

i said im glad the rangers still think they need to keep signing forwards, when their need is D. you cant make that connection to this thread?

oh i make the connection, all i'm saying is the crying 'waaahhhh's' aren't exactly necessary when you're the one provoking another teams' fans. i'm not crying. in fact i don't really give a fuck, i sucked up the loss when it happened.
just another point on this claim that our defense failed us:
devils goals by game
game 1 - 6 goals, 5 power play
game 2 - 4 goals, 1 power play, 2 shorthanded
game 3 - 3 even strength
game 4 - 4 goals, 2 power play, one shorthanded
11 of the Devils 17 goals in the series were scored on specialty teams, and aside from game 3, those specialty team goals were the difference in the games. The PK and lack of blueline protection on the PP, combined with Ozolinsh's drunken attempts at miraculous plays, did us in. But the D as a whole? Come on man, the Rangers were tied for 4th in the league in goals allowed with 215. Lundqvist had something to do with that, but their puck containment was great all year.

last time i checked, defense is part of the PK, so that didnt really help your claim.

last time i checked, the blueline and the PK were two different entities. considering the PK requires forwards.

I won't ever defense Kasparaitus in my life. I wish the guy would retire or that we'd trade him.

true, but i've seen so many teams that are great at containment on even strength, that end up flatfooted and caught in PK situations. the reason is the latter takes away from end-to-end action and pins the penalized team in the zone. Even strength defense and PK are entirely different situations that cannot be judged on equal merits- but even still the rangers PK was 3rd in the conference with 83.7 percent, to the devs 81.9.
what do i derive from this? the stats don't lie, the season was good, but the team FELL APART. and to run into the hottest team in the league didn't help either. think about that- two teams, one hot as fuck and the other spiraling into a dark abyss. the devils were my pick to win it all and i think they would have if not for the game 2 loss. but still, i think your assessment of why we got ass-raped in the 1st round was a little off.

mmm remember when he was pulled in game one against carolina?
remember when he fucking pwned the rangers in the first round?
oh and remember when he won those 3 stanley cups?
oh yeah, remember that time he won a gold medal?
OH, and that time he won those vezinas, that was cool too
I have no argument with any Devils fans, you guys really got rid of us last year so I can't comment about last season.
And even though I despise Kasparaitus..losing him does hurt the PK. We lost both our Alternate captains. I wonder who will get the other A's this year (probably Straka and Nylander, or maybe Shanahan).
