She Screams Scandal – The Wishing Well EP
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: October 2009
New Jersey is well known for its well-established, competitive music scene. The amount of local bands hoping to make a name for themselves is staggering. She Screams Scandal is just one of these bands. Though they play, for the most part, a rather average brand of pop-rock, what sets the band apart is their impressive drumming and well-placed use of the keyboard, all of which is clear on their new EP The Wishing Well.
The EP starts off with “The Fire on Our Tongues,” an extremely catchy, over-the-top sugary treat that has absolutely stunning piano work that beautifully complements the sugary riffs and average (albeit well-done) vocals. The EP then continues the momentum with “Stranded.” The song starts off with, and maintains, excellent drumming that complements the catchy riffs, and contains a stunning portion where the drums and keyboard weave in and around each other before the riffs kick back in. Unfortunately “Runaround” fails to keep the momentum from the previous track going. Though it is catchy, it fails to leave an impression in listener’s mind. The EP ends with “The Boy With No Name,” which, though catchy, is just as forgettable as “Runaround.”
She Screams Scandal is just another pop-rock band in New Jersey’s oversaturated music scene. Though the skilled drumming and piano work does a lot to separate the band from many of their peers, the band needs to step up their game on their next release if they hope to break out of the confines of the New Jersey scene (much like local heroes Cash Cash and Action Item did). However, though this EP contains some fairly forgettable tracks, the best songs off this release will be on my playlist for months to come.
“Stranded,” “The Fire On Our Tongues”
Mercy Mercedes, All Time Low, A non-coed The Morning Of
1. The Fire On Our Tongues
2. Stranded
3. Runaround
4. The Boy With No Name
