I had no idea the US was so anti-Keynesian. Learn something new every day. I guess I'm a little naive about American economics.

Aiming to justify McCarthyism is pretty ridiculous though.

It's just that these Texans are ridiculously overt and partisan about it.

I remember a discussion about this a while ago but I can't search for the thread because I don't remember the title or anything.

Anyway, please, someone tell me this is not real life.

AUSTIN, Tex. — After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday approved a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks (http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/subjects/t/textbooks/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier), stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers’ commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.

I didn't read your link, but I have heard about this ongoing battle with the Texas BoE and sane people, and I actually agree with some of the changes. I think it's important to examine inflation and its effect on the American dollar. But teaching it and getting rid of Keynesian economics...that's not a good thing. That's pretty much all I agree with, too. I remember hearing of a few other changes that they were either considering, like trying to justify McCarthyism. Ridiculous.

Stressing superiority of American capitalism and discussing the economic effects of inflation on the American dollar are vastly different. These changes are not a good thing. They are solely in effect to combat this existing notion that future generations aren't American enough because they question governmental and social norms and constructs. It's ridiculous.

There is a big difference between a movie and a textbook. Also, I don't know about you but i wasn't "indoctrinated" with global warming or "An Inconvenient Truth" whatsoever in school.

Plus it pretty much affects most of the country because text book companies basically conform to Texas's standards since they have the largest amount of school children. So it concerns most of the country's students and parents.
