View Full Version : down with deathcore?

everybody seems to be jumping on the deathcore bandwagon recently.
bands like suicide silence, the red shore etc. are dominating every music discussion i have with my mates.

ive tried to get into it but i just doesnt appeal to me.
maybe its just me but i feel that music requires some form of melody or something to take solace in rather then non stop "br00t4l" growling and squealing.
but like i said, maybe thats just me...

Don't feel bad, within a couple of years or so, that fad will die out.

I fuciking hate this shit. Was Suicide Silence the band who done a whole album and in every song there was a sample from Family Guy? I'm pretty sure it was but it was so fucking irritating to see this band get popular because they had no ways to be catchy themselves so they'd just take stuff from Family Guy, something that's not even music related, and put it in there.

I used to listen to a lot of 'deathcore' stuff. Not so much anymore but i still listen occasionally.

i HATE this stuff. the only people that listen to this seem to be the 13-15yr old crowd, and the wiggers. ill take poison the well, hands, or living sacrifice over any of this stuff when i need a heavy music fix.

Bad music. Definitely not popular with anyone I know, aside from a few kids who like Bring Me The Horizon.

Not my thing. A few of my friends are into it though.

I like Suicide Silence, Annotations of an Autopsy, Postmortem Promises and Job for a Cowboy. I know a lot of people who like it, or used to like it. Annotations are amazing live though, Job for a Cowboy weren't that great when I seen them, and Postmortem never seem to do gigs anywhere near here.

Here's what I think. If it's done right (All Shall Perish), deathcore and death metal can be good. Lately though, the bands start to sound the same, and I've been listening to less and less of these bands. It's not for everyone, but there are some good deathcore bands out there.

All things considered, deathcore is just another word for rock and roll.

You should counter this genre by just creating another one that stupid people are going to jump on to. It's easy, make it like, fartcore or something. I mean if a bunch of kids are going to take crabcore seriously you might be able to make a buck off of fartcore.

OdeToTheSun

I like some deathcore, but I can't stand the bands that "pig squeal" practically the whole time other than a few (Chelsea Grin, old AOAA, and old Impending Doom).

Oh and LOL @ BMTH.

deathcore is just another word for popular death metal bands that have breakdowns and don't know how to play their instruments out of drop D oh and write horrible lyrics this fad should have died out already

ZachMadeMeOdd
01/20/10, 12:28 PM
It is an acquired taste. There are a large amount of people that listen to it and support heavy bands but i'm doubtful many use AP. The only issue I have is that there are just SO many bands pulling off the same sound. I listen to bands that mostly stood out or pulled it off first. I won't say "deathcore" because i think the 3495676 different new genres people name are stupid, but bands like The Acacia Strain or Shai Hulud still kill it.

Deathcore is basically Death Metal Lite. It has the characteristics of death metal but it's still light enough for 14 year old scene chicks to go nuts for it. Now, there are a few decent bands in the bunch, most notably The Red Chord and All Shall Perish, but the rest of it is just uninspired generic me-too bullshit. This whole thing really reminds me of what metalcore was like about three or four years, where it seemed like every where you looked, there was another metalcore band wearing chick pants and playing Swedish melo-death riffs. As I've said before in here, it's a fad and before you know it, it'll be over and the br00tal kids will have to find something else to leach onto and drain the life out of it.

Meh some are really great like Dance Club Massacre, Oceano, See You Next Tuesday, and Whitechapel. But most just really need to die, especially their shitty palm muted breakdowns.

My bf and most of his mates are into suicide silence and all that sorta stuff.. i can get into it sometimes but most of the time we listen to it in the car on the way to uni etc so i'm in a bubble of my own thinking about more important stuff but its when they ask ya who was that? whats this song? blah blah blah.. like i give a crap. all it does is piss me off then

LOL at deathcore. Almost none of these bands listed are deathcore. BMTH being deathcore? hahaha! I've seen the Red Chord live, absolutely sucked. But, it did show how much better Underoath is. Now, real deathcore (or death metal, don't really know what to call it) is old From a Second Story Window, The Black Dahlia Murder, My Bitter End. None of that no-talent recent upbringings, Dethklok and Suicide Silence and Whitechapel... no. That sucks. and I refuse to support it. So yeah, look up those 3 bands, be enlightened.

Dude, it's a fucking cartoon death metal band(i.e not real), to which main purpose of said band is to poke fun at death metal and the metal genre in general, so I don't see to why you're so hung up on genre here or to why you can't see the obvious. Also, as a long time metal fan, I think the show and the music from the show is fucking hilarious and is a great parody of the metal genre, so yes, I think it's awesome. Maybe you have no sense of humor, maybe you have no real knowledge of metal or maybe you lack both, either way that shit is hilarious and nothing is wrong with it.

Haha I could give a shit about it being real or fake. Musical quality still should matter, if you're making fun of things or not. Dr. Acula is in the same vein (or so I believe, but feel free to disagree) and they actually have a backbone of talent to their randomness. But, in the same way Dr. Acula and System of a Down and any "joke" type bands start to annoy me after a few listens. For some reason, I prefer to have my music have some sort of talent, melody, and message/meaning/point to what they're trying to accomplish. As for the genre debate, sure, I could be completely wrong about what is deathcore, but to me, it's just a subgenre of metal that really doesn't do much for me, and doesn't do much period.

Haha okay. Let me clarify. System of a Down is not a joke band. But, they choose some abnormal topics (Chic N Stu, Kill Rock N Roll, Violent Pornography, Sugar, Bounce, etc...) and make fun of things. So, they're not a joke band as Dethklok is, but they aren't completely lyrically serious. And I'm also not saying they're bad, I've listened to them for years too so that wasn't my point entirely. My point was that I like music to have a message behind what they're playing, and that there still is probably fifty bands I can think of that are better, imo. So, chill out.

I was being more sarcastic, like I'm pretty sure I do know what they mean. Bounce is a song about an orgy, Kill Rock N Roll is about how Serj (i think) hit 2 bunnies when he was driving, and named them Rock and Roll. Chic N Stu seems to be about pizza, but I dont know. Violent Pornography fits in with the songs title, or so the lyrics seem to. So yeah, pretty sure I do know.
