CBGB's Owner Speaks W/ MTV

The infamous New York music club, CBGB's will be making a move to Las Vegas says Owner Hilly Kristal. Kristal spoke with MTV News and said that he will begin scouting locations very shortly. i had never been to cbgb's but that doesnt sound like good news to me at all, i hate las vegas. when i go there i just feel like all im doing is throwing away money constantly and getting taken advantage of.

I think a move to Vegas will be the beginning of an entirely new era. It won't be the true CB's anymore, but it certainly could do well. But, I can't help thinking that the legacy should just be laid to rest.

cb's is grimey and dirty like the bowery at the time,which is why it churned out the bands it did..Vegas is glitzy and show-y . I mean obviously its hilly right to do what he wants,but its sad this was the choice. Its gonna turn into a "hard rock"-esque themed club.
are they gonna make it dirty on purpose?

I didn't think that the term "sell out" was relevent anymore but this is the first time in about 20 years that I think it is absolutely applicable.

The commercialism of this plan just completely flies in the face of Kristal's whole argument for keeping the joint open and doing all of those fundraising shows for the past year and a half.

Basically CBGB's is no longer a venue, it's just a name to exploit now.

You missed the argument my friend. The reason people are pissed is that the club would be called CBGB's when it's obviously not. I don't think anyone is arguing over whether or not a club should be opened in Vegas, I'm quite sure that would be a great idea actually. But should that club be called CBGB's? No, no, and fuck no.

It should be called TeeNeeWeeNee's or something like that.
