Pete Wentz's favorite band, The Killers, have revealed some information about their up and coming album:
Island recording group The Killers have completed the recording of their eagerly anticipated second album. Due to arrive in stores in October 3rd 2006, the as-yet- untitled new album will impact radio with lead single "When You Were Young" in July. Wanting to give back to their fans, The Killers will be featuring a sneak listen to their upcoming single "When You Were Young" today, July 10th at 5pm EST on IslandRecords.com
The album was recorded in the new Palm Studios in The Killer's hometown of Las Vegas, with venerable British producers Flood (Mark Ellis) and [Alan] Moulder. It marks a reunion of the duo who first came to prominence as the producers of Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), and whose many credits as engineers, mixers and producers have gone on to include U2, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave the Bad Seeds, and Erasure (Flood); and Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Swervedriver, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and last year's special Hot Fuss (Moulder).
The new album follows-up the phenomenal HOT FUSS, which was released in June 2004 and stayed the longest-running rock album inside the top 50 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for all of 2005, reaching #7 and eventually logging 53 weeks inside the Top 50 and 94 weeks on the Top 200. On the strength of four solid hit singles - the Grammy-nominated #3 Modern Rock anthem of 2004, "Somebody Told Me," the VMA-winning (and Grammy-nominated) "Mr. Brightside," the Modern rock hit "Smile Like You Mean It," and the Grammy-nominated "All These Things That I've Done" - HOT FUSS was first certified double-platinum by the RIAA in April 2005. In August, Hot Fuss Limited Edition was issued, including three bonus tracks previously unreleased in the U.S. ("Glamorous Indie Rock Roll", "The Ballad of Michael Valentine," "Under The Gun"). Cumulative sales pushed the album to triple-platinum by November, and worldwide sales have topped the 5 million mark since then.
The Killers - Brandon Flowers on vocals and keyboards, guitarist David Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci - were the music industry's top artist develop¬ment story of 2004-2005. In August, the album was named to the "Long List" of first-round nominees from 11 countries for the Shortlist Music Prize, presented by XM and MTV2. In September, the Killers were nominated for Best New Act at Q magazine's annual awards. In November, they won the Breaking Woodie (as "Freshman" Best Emerging Artist) at mtvU's 1st annual Woodie Awards.
The Killers made the cover of SPIN magazine twice awarding them with "Band of The Year." They went on to appear on the covers of Q, NME, BPM, and many other publications. Their first major headlining North American tour began in April, buoyed by an appearance that month on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. As HOT FUSS passed its one year anniversary in Billboard in June, the Killers performed at the prestigious Glastonbury Festival in England, followed by their appearance at Sir Bob Geldof's "Live 8: The Long Walk To Justice" in London's Hyde Park on July 2nd. In September, the Killers capped a rigorous two years of hard work and non-stop touring when they won the MTV VMA for Best New Artist In a Video for "Mr. Brightside," directed in Las Vegas by Anton Corbijn.
