View Full Version : Lasting Impression

I sometimes think about Pan's Labyrinth out of nowhere for hours. I can't really explain why, other than the fact that I love the story. Still, only a few movies have accomplished this. Usually, I think about a movie after I've watched it, or for days / weeks after the fact, but never this long. So I was wondering if there are movies that have made a lasting impression on you the same way or that you think about randomly?

Just to clarify - it doesn't have to be movies that you like. Some movies just seem to stay with me forever, whether they're good or bad, so I'm curious to see if others feel the same way and about what movies.

I still haven't watched that. I'm so behind on '09 movies.

Other two I can think of right now:

Lord of the Rings
District 9

I drove my friends insane for weeks after watching District 9 because I couldn't stop talking about it.

The Wrestler for me though.

I spent a good bit of time talking about District 9 as well, I think it has to do with how much of a surprise that film was for me.

Recently, I don't think The Night of the Hunter has left my head since watching it last Saturday.

I was just about to reply to Will and say, "I think the reason why it had such a big impact on me is because it came out of nowhere and completely surprised me." I had no idea what to expect when I went to the movies. I don't even know why I went to see it as early as I did (opening weekend) because I knew nothing about it. I was just blown away by it and was almost in awe after I watched it.

I've only seen it once too, yet I still think about it from time to time.

That Thing You Do! has that for me, honestly.

Dunno, if any of this is spoiler worthy..
The end of the film is so serious in it's tone, that whenever I am thinking of how I've changed or how life has changed as I've gotten older I immediately think of how at the end of the film, they are no longer naive kids in a garage band. Love that movie. And the credits with where they are now, always makes me think how life...moves on.

I saw it on Monday. After seeing both, and this is hard to say, but I think Colin Firth deserves Best Actor out of all the movies I have seen that can be eligible for Oscars.

Same. Although I'll be content if either Bridges, Renner, or Clooney wins it.

One of my favorites, I can throw it on anytime and where and still laugh like it's my first time. I need the director's cut.

I barely do this anymore, see a movie without knowing much about it.

I think with all the information out there on movies I tend to try and learn too much about a film before seeing, mostly because I want to make sure I get my moneys worth. but I think I may be setting my self up to fail when I create expectations either way before I see it and then afterwards have a confirmation bias about movies. like if I think the movie is going to be awesome during I keep looking for ways to comfirm in my mind that it is a good movie.

also watching too many trailer and readign too many reviews or plot synopsis. I almost ruined The Dark Knight for myself doing this . when I first saw it I was think "oh when is that scene from the trailer going to happen?" kinda stuff.

I hope you get what I mean haha

Yeah, I know what you mean and I'm sure everyone here can relate to that.

I mean, I download a lot of movies because I can't afford to watch all that many in theaters, but the ones I do see there, I make sure I know what they're about. It was different with District 9. I remember seeing Peter Jackson's name attached to it and that pretty much sold me because I'm a big fan. So yeah, while I usually know about movies before I watch them, this was different. There wasn't much information on it out there before it came out, anyway.

Gone Baby Gone. Almost the whole film takes place in a moral gray area. It felt a lot more realistic than most of the other stuff I've seen and that's disheartening. That one stuck with me.

because I recently saw it: The Hurt Locker. I have been on a I guess streak where the only time I was watching movies is if they were a typical Hollywood mainstream shitter involving a horribly transferred Super Hero, Video Game or repetitive Judd Apatow comedy once every month or two(since these 3 style of films come out about 10 times a year), so when I went to watch The Hurt Locker, it was so different cinematography wise compared to the shit I had been seeing (like an idiot rightfully so) that it definitely left me feeling different towards the string of movies I had been wasting my money on.

was going to post this one. this movie is like an obstacle to watch, but not in a bad way. so many emotions are explored in here. i need to watch it again.

another one for me that i don't see a lot of people talking about is The King. it has William Hurt, Gael Garcia-Bernal, and Paul Dano in it. it's a really messed up story, with a perfect final scene/shot. after watching it i just couldn't stop thinking about it. i still think about it every couple of days. it's been quite a few months, but i just feel like i have to talk about it.
