Within the past 2 months ive recently stumbled upon a band by the name of "La Dispute". After hearing one song I was unfathomably blown away and immediately purchased their album entitled "Somewhere at the Bottom of the River between Vega and Altair". Undoubtedly this band isnt for everyone, some may consider the vocalist to be depressed or in a constant state of complaint, but for anyone who enjoys intricate and deep lyrics I HIGHLY recommend giving this band a shot. The manner in which each song is composed is almost as if the vocalist has taken passages from his diary and turned it into full fledged tracks. Each song is full of such emotion that you can't help but compare it to some of the trails and tribulations that you yourself have experienced in life. Heres a link to their myspace, this band deserves way more attention than they're currently recieving: http://www.myspace.com/ladispute

Disagree.
Vancouver was a great jam man, it didn't seem like they were trying to impress anyone and just jam. Somewhere just sounded like they were trying to fit an artsy crowd and in turn bored me to pieces when I listened to it
I mean I doubt that was their intension, Somewhere just didn't click with me though.

I feel like The Last Lost Continent is the best song they've ever written

Vancouver was more consistent, but Somewhere had a few better songs. And the most recent 7" is fucking perfect.

I love both Vancouver and Somewhere. Also, the Here, Hear series has some really great tracks. The newest in particular.

I love the Here Hear series. Enjoy Somewhere when I'm in the right mood. Not got Vancouver but guessing I should pick it up, judging by some of the comments here.

Yes.
Musically, they're pretty good - some sound instrument work there. Vocally however, I just can't stand them. Lead vocalist is painfully average.

i don't like vocals either, they could be much better

I really enjoy Vancouver, but they improved so much in their ability to write music that flows with the lyrics in "Somewhere". The emotions that the vocalist portrays in "Somewhere" are unlike anything ive ever heard. Plus the entire album is written like a story in the form of a story which makes it even more enticing. Ive been listening to "Somewhere" damn near every day for 2months and im still not even close to putting it down, i know just about every lyric to the album and im still on edge the whole time to hear what the vocalist has to say next.

If there was really that much hype, they'd be selling a lot more records. Step outside the tiny bubble that is select AP.net threads.

I love Jordan's vocals. It's pretty raw, and not trying to be anything else. I think Somewhere is far better than Vancouver. They're two different sounds, IMO, but I like Somewhere much better.
Not to mention Here, Hear 3 has been on my daily playlist for the past 3 weeks.

Hahaha, I never even post here. I'm from Vermont, where no joke, La Dispute is the only band talked about. Everyone there listens to them, even people who know nothing about the community of bands La Dispute comes from. I know a kid who has a La Dispute chest piece and BMTH lyrics also tattooed on his body.
That is the hype I am referring to.

Ah, right on man. Thanks for clarifying. That is hilarious though. Those are the kind of fans bands need to make a career out of music though -- the ones who are that dedicated.

I'm stepping on the "Somewhere..." side of this argument. I love the way the lead singer delivers line after line. The opener, Such Small Hands, the way he sings (if you want to call it that) gives me a hip hop vibe to it, as if he's rapping. I heard them a while back but didn't give them the time or the concentration to really appreciate that album. Then on a trip to Orlando, I could not stop listening to the album--I was hooked. But don't get me wrong, Vancouver is great, too. But for me, Somewhere wins me over.

Those are the cash-cow fans who will financially support a band until they aren't cool. Which is good for the band, it just makes shows kind of a bummer.

They even mentioned having a strong hip-hop influence when I met them so there is no arguing that one.

Love these guys. Somehow I've missed most of their shows over the years, and now they're getting big enough that I have to actually worry about shows selling out. Bittersweet.
