Sugarcult (http://www.sugarcult.com)'s new single, "Do It Alone," can be streamed in its entirety here (http://www.purevolume.com/15free). Lights Out is set to hit stores on September 12th.

Ugh, seriously?
What a disappointment.
I think its funny that the album is called "lights out" and the song was written by nick herrick (http://absolutepunk.net/www.myspace.com/nickherrick), and he wrote it when he was in the band lights out irvine.

The chorus is terrible, and for a band like Sugarcult that is so poppy that the chorus needs to be the apex of all that is pop, it just sounds soooo flat.
Bad news bears.

I completely agree. Such a poor chorus - such a step down from the perfect-pop song "Memory" was.

dude... why are bands still trying to be Blink 182 clones?

It strikes me as odd that year after year everyone proclaims pop-punk to be dead and gone and every year labels spend big bucks promoting albums like this.

Yeah, you can actually find the orignal song at http://www.purevolume.com/lightsoutirvine
If you think this song can't get any worse, then listen to the orignal. It's called "Alone"

Ehhh, it's all right. Since I'm able to download it, maybe it'll grow on me, but compared to a song like "Memory," which is easily one of the best songs they've ever written, it's lacking in many areas.

I'm disappointed. But god, the original is worse than Sugarcult's cover.

you know, i agree on most peoples opinion of "memory" but am i the only one who thought the acoustic was a 100x better?

The song is one of those ones that will hit you when you least expect it. You'll be sitting there humming the "iiiiii dont wanna do it alone" and you'll be like dam its good then you'll listen to it. Thats what happened for me anyway. One more thing for god sakes please stop compairing this song to Memory, how is a band going to "grow" and try new things if their fans keep refering back to their last album. I remember when every one was like "ohhh memory is like bouncing off the walls blah blah blah" They have the record deal, let them make the music.
Sounds like an Our Lady Peace song to me.

I wouldn't say it's 100x better, but I do believe it captures more emotion on the acoustic version, therefore placing it before the radio version most of us all know.

Hahahahah that's true and hilarious. When I heard this song start to play, Crit, my jaw dropped to the floor. I remember when the Lights Out Irvine demo came out...and I was just floored to hear THIS be the song... oh god. Haaahahahahahahahaha.

Anyone who ever listened to Fake ID/The Drive knows how manufactured [this song, at least] this band truly is. Hahah.

whoa thats a head-trip. i have a poster from a show that the lead singer (martin johnson) played with his old ska-band (the touchtones) played with Fake ID hanging up in my room. its wierd that you associated the two.

It's actually not weird at all. I was a fan of theirs waaay back in the day, and then once they finally broke up, the 4 remaining members formed Lights Out Irvine- the band Nick originally wrote this song for.
PS - Martin Johnson is the biggest toolbox to walk the earth and yet somehow has a record deal? Hahaha.
These are the guys that made such a great album only a few years back in Start Static???? The last album was okay, but didn't get me as excited as Start Static. If this is any indication of the direction they are heading I am very disappointed. Very disappointed.

all sugarcult songs are annoyingly repetative anymore... and his voice sounds like he just woke up from cum guzzling

I wouldn't waste my time; totally pertinent to this thread, though, really.

it's decent. it doesn't sound like sugarcult though, but i guess that's to be expected seeing how a lot of bands change their sound after a while. i would not be surprised if this song ends up on one tree hill season 4, because it's pretty catchy, and that show always has songs like that on it.
