View Full Version : Limited iPod Space and A Change In Music Taste

cwhit412

So, I'm having a small problem. In the past month, my music taste has changed drastically. I basically spend my time looking up music of my new taste, giving me little time to even get to know it. Now, my other problem is my ipod was 3/4 full BEFORE i got all this new music. So, my iPod is overflowing. Do I just stop looking up music for now, letting this stuff settle in? Or should I do a full makeover? Has anyone else had this problem?

How is this even a problem? Just pick which songs you want on your iPod, done deal.

Put what new ones on there that you like and keep all of your old favourites too. Shouldn't be that hard.

Get a new ipod! They're getting cheaper and cheaper and constantly making new ones that hold more songs.
I used to have the same problem a couple years ago when I had an ipod that held 450 songs. That sucked.

What's this new music you're discovering?

(Delete old things you never listen to. Add new things album by album, so you can listen to everything you put on it at least once.)

That's what I do. Although I realized a few weeks ago that I don't actually have that much music, and I don't really need to delete anything yet.

Changing from "shitty" "pop-punk" (Artist Vs Poet, All Time Low, Friday Night Boys) to bands like Thrice, The Venetia Fair, Trophy Scars, Thursday. Pretty big change.

And I have an Itouch. can't get a new one.

01/23/10, 11:50 AM
Yeah, I have an 8GB iPod Touch too. One thing I did that cleared up about a gig of space is deleting all the apps I didn't use anymore. I only have two pages now, and I'm quite content with them. I also regularly download music, and I always end up deleting a bunch I don't like.

One thing I'm realizing lately is that music is just music. You don't HAVE TO have that album you like. I used to like keeping tons of music on my iPod just so when my friends would look at it they'd be like "WHOA YOU LIKE LOTS OF MOOZIKS", but now I don't even care. I only care about what I wanna listen to.

This happened to me recently. Just delete the songs you don't listen to or don't like and only keep the ones you like listening to. I'm still going through my iTunes and deleting a lot of stuff. Also remove apps from your iPod that you don't use or videos you don't watch. That will clear up a lot of space.

I have a 32gb iPod Touch that's filled to the brim with music, and I find myself switching out a few albums once a week or so. The problem is that there is about 20gb that I listen to enough to never remove, and that I'm OCD about having full albums on my iPod, even if there are a few songs on the album that I can't stand, won't ever listen to, etc. Something about it actually seeming like a record collection instead of a smattering of files, I guess. Like other people have said, I really regret not getting the 120/160gb iPod Classic.

Don't get a new iPod. Take off the stuff you don't want to listen to anymore (you'll still have it, just not portable) and spend time listening to your new discoveries. You'll appreciate the new music more and if you really want mix in the old stuff after a while you can, or that is when you get a new iPod.

Not to sound like an old man, but back in my day we only had 5-15gb iPods and you ran into this problem often ;-) So that is how I handled it. It sucked but I kept my 3rd gen 15gb for 5.5 years doing that.

I always do this. I hate it when I run out of space on something and then have to delete the songs from the album that suck. I just know that albums were put together the way they were for a reason and that took a lot of work, and I want to honor that by listening to the songs in the order they're meant to be presented.

here's my opinion:

people who don't have full albums on their ipods are morons. people who have music they don't plan to listen to again on their ipods are morons. so just download and listen to, get to know what you really love and don't keep anything on there you don't like. take time to actually listen to albums over and over again rather than download hundreds of artists simply for the sake of it. simple as that.

I'm an album guy and not a singles guy. I understand the thought of singles but it is more in the sense of a mixtape/playlist of bands you already enjoy. I agree though it is better to experience the full album and hear the band as they had intended instead of picking and choosing 2-3 songs from 300 different bands. I have roughly 6k mp3's right now and probably only a few dozen of those aren't part of me having the full album they came from.

I don't really like any abbreviations. It bothers me to no end when for whatever reason I have to text someone and need to abbreviate because my message is longer than 160 characters. Which is why I try to actually call the person when I can.
