View Full Version : Favorite Thursday album?

There hasn't been another poll created for this since the release of 'Common Existence', so i'm curious to see how the turn out would be, especially since 'CE' has become many people's favorite.

So what is your favorite Thursday full-length?

ACBTLD> Full Collapse> Common Existence> Waiting= WATT

Full Collapse, always and forever. Common Existence has moved into my number two spot though.

War All the Time for sure. Honestly, I don't see why Full Collapse gets so much praise. Don't get me wrong, I like it.

War All The Time. Full Collapse was the first Thursday album I heard, and it was in my top 5 ever at the time. But when WATT came out, it surpassed it on first listen; something about the whole feel of the album being darker and more cohesive, not to mention the album art/package.

i voted War All The Time. Full Collapse was the first i heard, but i felt WATT topped it in every way (musically & lyrically), and like someone earlier said, it was much more cohesive.

If we're talking about cohesion, then 'Full Collapse' should be on top. Of all their albums, that one has the most complete feel and best flow. 'War All the Time' has decent flow, but it's not nearly as evident/prominent as in 'FC' or 'ACBTLD', and on top of that "This Song Brought to You By a Falling Bomb" is (musically) arguably out of place. It fits, and it's a great song, but it pulls away from the togetherness.

For me, my order of favorites is: Full Collapse > War All the Time > Waiting > A City By the Light Divided > Common Existence
My order of best to worst would be: Full Collapse > A City By the Light Divided = War All the Time > Common Existence > Waiting

Full Collapse.

I didn't realize anyone really even liked Common Existence, I didn't hear anyone talking about it.

The official thread has had some discussion, but i've barely been able to make a contribution any of it. I got the album in the summer, and I haven't heard it enough (maybe 40 or so listens), so I haven't really dug deep into it. I really like it though.

You haven't dug deep with 40 listens? How many more do you think you need?

Some of my favorite albums EVER I haven't even listened to 40 times straight through yet. How the hell can you not be into it already by now?

Haha, probably only a few more. It's mainly because i've heard it while checking my 47 forums, so trying to read and reply is distracting, so I enjoy it it, but there'll be a minute here or there that just gets almost completely blocked out. Plus, it helps if I listen through headphones, esp. while asleep as opposed to just through my speakers.

Seriously? Wow. I've heard 'The Dark Side of the Moon' like 400 times minimum.

I'm into it, but like I don't know all the lyrics yet, and haven't recognized meanings, etc.

It's like all their previous records mixed. Has similar production as 'ACBTLD', and musically/vocally it's closer to 'FC' and 'WATT', with a different approach to song-writing. It's like a step forward, but still that familiarity - so it's like a half-step forward.

I don't understand this. My favorite albums I've listened to hundreds of times.

I guess I can see this. But, I don't give an album 40 opportunities to impress me. If i don't like it within the first two or three listens, I move on.

I've learned about them because of Full Collapse, but War All The Time is the album that really got me into their stuff. Crazy good album.

I can think of one album in particular that I know I have listened to all the way through at least 50 times, with some songs reaching up in the hundreds of play counts. But if I have listened to an album 40 times like the OP claims he did for Common Existence, then it be a damn good album in my book, and not still trying to get into it. That's far too many listens to not be able to "get" the album.

Yea, if it's new music I give it 2-5 listens.

Surely in the minority, I went with ACBTLD. When I first heard that album it hit me hard. The musicianship and experimentation they did on that album blows my mind.

I know a lot of people who hate on it because of it's [intentionally] sub-par production, but perhaps it was just enough of a leap to throw people? Not sure, obviously, since I love it.
