View Full Version : Ex-flatmate rant

cut a long story short, an ex-flatmate owes me about NZ$240 (US$170).

when he left, it seemed pretty amicable... he asked rather that paying the last two weeks rent, if he could not pay that and i wouldn't give him any bond back (the bond is two weeks rent). i agreed to this, but he still owed the last weeks rent.... plus overdue fees & electricity bill.

two months later and several texts... nothing. the last text i sent him at the beginning of the year was 'please get your payment through asap as i want to tie up all loose ends asap'. he replied 'yeah, i totally understand, just had a muck-up at the bank, sorry, will get payment thru asap.'

i have sent him several messages since... nothing. doesn't it suck when people take advantage of you?

i'm only on a part-time wage and i'm still paying for this... fucking sucks.

the only thing that makes me laugh is that he had to go back to his mum's place to live.... and he's 35!

Nope, definitely isn't. The other dude using the word "hilariously" to describe how much that wouldn't be worth it is about as accurate as you can get. The time it would take to get that shit wrapped up...well, my time is worth exponentially more than that.

Not much. I just equate Snoopy to Micheal Faraday, one of my idols.

just about to start my 3rd year of a 4 year BA fine arts degree. took a few courses in my younger years.

will probably end up going to aussie when i finish. go work in the gold mine pits in Kalgoorlie (absolutely no relevance to a fine arts degree, ha).

Ha, it's actually not to bad at the moment. Try a few years ago when NZD$1 got you 50c US if you were lucky.

Anyway OP that stinks, if you're really needing the money you could take him to the Small Claims Tribunal, I think the cost for that is about $30? I (un)fortunately never had to deal with flatting/flatmates/stuff like that while I was at college.

it's the american way!

in reality, i'll probably end up doing nothing about it. although i could really use the cash and it's pissed me off no doubt, i really don't want to waste any more energy on that selfish prick. i guess i'm kinda glad it wasn't a larger sum and i've been able to (just) get by.
