I searched and couldn't find a thread for either show. Figured since a new season of 16 is starting and hopefully we'll get more from the bunch on Teen Mom after this season is over... that a combined thread would be fine. Saw a lot of chatter in the My Life as Liz thread so... here goes!
Anyway... just looked up the article about Farrah and her mom. That is nuts. I wonder if they could use footage from Teen Mom as evidence that Farrah doesn't take care of her child and that her mom shouldn't of choked her but has put up with enough!!! hahahaha.

I caught a marathon a few weeks ago and I thought it was actually pretty good. Maci and Catelynn both seem like great examples of a teen mom. Amber and Farrah just piss me off.

Farrah and Amber are the worst. I feel bad for the two kids who gave their child up for adoption, especially the boy, because his redneck dad is always giving him shit for making that decision.

Just reading about it made me laugh, 17 girls and a few had their kids with the same homeless guy...fucked up.
As for Teen Mom, well I know Maci. Her boyfriend is a douche, but she's also represented in better light in the show then in real life.

that's something that really irritates me about the show, they always portray the girls significant others as being the bad person, when the girls are probably just as bad or even worse then the guys they're with (this is coming from the experiences i've had with teen moms)

they do not represent Farrah or her mother in any sort of good light (I had to laugh at when Farrah went to the football game and was all "people are staring, lets go".. uhh they're staring cause of the cameras not because you have a baby haha).
Amber seems like she's learning/getting better but I think the show both her and gary in a not so good light. (on 16 and pregnant I thought he was so great, and he wanted to watch the birth etc, Teen Mom, worse light).
Catelynn and Tyler are so cute. I can't even stand it. haha.
Maci... I can't imagine her being a bad mom... maybe all their showing is her being a good mom (cause she is) but not showing that she can be stuck up or something? I think that's the only thing I could see from her... but what do I know! haha

They totally make Farrah look a lot worse than she is, I think. She wasn't shown like this during 16 and Pregnant and then all of a sudden they make her seem batshit crazy. I think ANYONE that had to live with that mother would act the way Farrah does. I wholeheartedly disagree that she is anything like Heidi ... she isn't an 'evil' girl at all.

I'd like to think that people are complaining about the fact that she is not a good mother. (that's all they really can complain about from what the show depicts...oh and being a brat) Yeah her mother nags way too much but most of what her mother is saying, its true. Yeah, you're 17 but you're a mom now. you can't be dating around and staying out until 2 in the morning. etc etc etc. Near the end of Teen Mom she has signs of her getting a clue but her and her mother still fight so much and around that baby.
Maybe she needs to move out on her own (or maybe with her grandparents) but then if she was alone I'd fear for that baby. I don't know how she slept through Sophia being awake etc. My cat wakes me up at the slightest meow!

I always wondered about the father, now I feel bad because I wanted to know what he looked like cause Sophia isn't really all that cute and Farrah is very pretty. I had no idea that he had died. I guess in the episode she just cut him off... did they ever say that he didn't want the kid or was mean to her when he found out? I only know what was in that article saying her mom said to take his number out of her phone. I don't think I saw her episode.

The last episode I saw (but it could have been an old repeat - I only ever catch it occasionally), they were broken up and Maci took the baby over to his house and his parents were trying to convince them to get together and making it seem like they should be together forever and get married because it would be "tough to share the baby with another parent, like a stepmother or stepfather." Um. These are children. Why try to push them into a marriage that probably won't work? Having stepparents would probably be a hell of a lot easier on the kid than watching his parents constantly fighting and then getting a divorce. That just seemed ridiculous to me.

I can't believe how big of a piece of shit Ryan is. Not saying I want a kid right now, but I have had a kid as amazing as Bently I would want to spend every second of my life with him, Maci's not too bad either ;-) . I feel like Maci gives him too much shit though. Amber also is a huge bitch to Gary, who is really trying I think. Catelyn and Tyler would have probably been really good parents but I think they made a good choice.
I mean, this show sucks!

I feel so terrible for Catelynn. The show portrays her as happy and coping with her adoption, but my mother works with teen moms and I've seen how they deal with issues like this. She's clearly really troubled and needs help. :-(

I don't really think Gary was trying. I mean yes, he had a job and let her live in his apartment. But all Amber wanted to do was finish high school, and the second she tried to make time to get her GED, Gary signed up for classes and basically told her she could take her classes, but she had to figure out what to do with Leah. But the second Amber left with Leah, Gary bugged out and actually stated that he loved her. He couldn't care less about what the two of them were doing until she built up the courage and moved out. Amber is happy with her new job and her own home, and has the prospect of getting her GED, and now he wants his family back.

Teen Mom on MTV is probably the worst thing ever. Glamorizing how difficult it is to be a teenage parent and thus encouraging girls to do it. Instead of helping there are dramatic little girls out there who would love all the drama that surrounds this whole aspect of life and this show. Young, unmarried girls need to keep their legs shut and if they think about messing around than they better be ready do deal with all that it brings.

If your mom gives you permission to go out, and says she will take care of the baby, I don't see the problem. The mom gave her a lot of freedom, but the girl went out almost every day, and then proceeded to scream at her mom. Girl is out of control.
I'm actually happy that the mom put her foot down and said "I'm not going to watch him, so you can stay home or take him with you." The problem I had with Farrah's mom is that she always caved. Understandable - the baby can't survive on its own, but the mothers need to try to be more strict.

She doesnt but thats because theres a lot going on there that they didnt really touch on. My mom didnt even catch it but Farrah's mom said to her dad that he's been in and out of their life, that plus the fact that he's her biological father but she calls him by his first name makes me think that he probably wasnt around much when she was a little kid (in those years when you really bond with your parents).
Think about it, she's rude and disrespectful but she still calls her mom "mom", she's not attached to him.

At least in the "I want to hang out with my friends and not raise my kid" sort of way. And the obnoxious mom. And less attractive.
This bitch makes Farrah look like a saint. Everytime she said "Moum" I wanted to kill myself.

Don't worry, MTV will repeat the crap out of it and it's on mtv.com :)
Also, being 28 and never having been pregnant and don't plan on having kids, but if I do I'll be in my 30s and my body will not ever go back to normal I bet... these darn girls and their bodies just POP .. back to normal. After a month, the girl from last night fit into her cheerleading uniform again! haha

You lose a ton of weight the second the baby comes out. The rest you have to work off, but with them being young, it's a lot easier to do that. My friend is like 24 and it's been 2 years and nothing has come off, haha. but you didn't hear that from me :)

I really like the names they've been giving to their kids, Jace and Lyle.
But seriously, Jenelle's boyfriend was a prick. I didn't really care for the girl that was on last night, she struck me as a little slow.

Lyle IS a cute name. That girl was so typical - letting the guy walk all over her. That guy was a jerk and doesn't deserve the attention she's giving him.
I feel absolutely horrible for the girl that's on next week. She seems so devastated.

I cant believe this last episode oh my god that asshole of a boyfriend. I cant believe she was so passive when he dumped her even though it was only a few weeks earlier that he was trying to make her say that he trumped her mother. I was thinking that she was 15 and then turned 16 which would almost explain why she let him walk all over her, but it made me feel so much worse for her because I had been that age that age with my near baby experience but wow its sad.
I wonder what her reaction is going to be, like if she's going to detach herself from her baby or if she's going to be like the mom on Terms of Endearment. I hope she doesnt detach.

I wonder if he's gotten his ass kicked because of the show or not. His mom should have smacked him when Nikkole was in labor and he was being so obnoxious, or at the very least, someone should have kicked him out of the room and they should have been serious about it.

I think Andrew was way worse. He verbally abused Jenelle, calling her worthless and didn't care about Jace at all. He called Jenelle when he was drunk and got a DUI. Andrew is waaaay worse than Josh, in my opinion.
Agreed on the Ryan thing. He was just a passive, apathetic jerk, not agressive like the other douches on this season.

This show doesnt really make guys look good (with the exception of Tyler and the guy in the first season who looked way older than his girlfriend who's mom was also pregnant and they all lived with her grandma) all of the baby daddies looked like dicks at one point or another so far. On the bright side, I know that I absolutely will not be getting knocked up by a guy my age because babies and teenage boys dont mix.

Why would he get that from Walmart while he had cameras following him, its like he has no shame.
Well I found out about the pregnancy/pregnancy scare when we all thought it was a pregnancy so my reaction would be the same as last time, I would laugh hysterically for a little while, then I'd realize that it meant that I wasnt going to be the first one having a baby (first grandchild is always the most special) so then I'd be a little bit depressed.
But there would be less shock if he did get someone pregnant at this point because he's older than last time...and I'd have to wrestle him down to the ground like we used to do when we were little kids, and make him buy a pack of condoms and a chastity belt.

You're right about the grandchild and being special. I'm a twin, so I guess my sister and I are both special lol
On another topic, when my sister gathers my family in the living room because she needs to tell us something, I start off with, "Are you pregnant?" just as a joke but what she tells us is usually unimportant.

Its also special to be the absolute youngest in your family. I'm the oldest girl grandchild on my dads side but I'm the youngest person on my mom's side of my family, I'm the baby.

My mom doesnt want any babies, she's like "fuck it I'm 41, just give me long distance grandchildren...once" I think I might stay the youngest for a while.
That would be the best way to do it with my mom, give her time to rationalize. I would actually pay money to see what my dad's reaction might be if I got pregnant at 17, but only if my boyfriend was there when my dad found out. My dad has more than 10 kids, I'm sure that he knows that girls pretty much ultimately make the decision (being the gatekeeper and all) but he's probably going to think two things...
1. his firstborn child, his precious daughter (at which point he'd flash back to when I was cute and still in diapers) is too innocent to be 50% responsible for that kind of thing.
2. The boy manipulated and convinced her to have sex.
Its just what society does to teenage girls and to teenage boys when it comes to sex, it makes boys look like sex maniacs who just go humping everything all of the time. And girls end up seeming like fragile little porcelain dolls that you have to protect half of the time. Its not fair, but it seems like something I could take advantage of for april fools day.

She just let him walk all over her, and thought of the baby as almost an accessory. i dont know how she could just let him treat her like crap. he is such a jerk. i felt bad for her mom.

I seriously think they purposely tried to find guys to make ryan not look as bad haha. The guy on this weeks episode was a complete and udder ass. Calling his daughter a mistake. wow.
On another note, I love Chelsea and her parents. She's a great mom. I love that her dad let her go to homecoming (she is nowhere near like Farrah) and she didn't go to the dance cause she missed Aubrey so much. So so great.

I think he knew that he wanted to keep the baby, but once the parents spoke to him, he caved. Dealing with the parents of your significant other, especially in high school, is not easy.
I just felt bad for her, because she wanted to keep it so badly, and he gave her false hope. And now her parents expect her to return to normalcy, meanwhile she'll probably be scarred for a long time, with no one to turn to.

By the end he definitely wanted to keep the baby, but throughout the episode he changed his mind a few times and that didn't make it any easier on her.
And I agree. You'd think her parents would be more understanding considering the fact that they adopted.

And I agree. You'd think her parents would be more understanding considering the fact that they adopted.
That's the exact reason they were trying to get her consider adoption, because sometimes (not necessarily saying this was that time) it is the better option for the child and the teen, and of course it's a tough choice. But some of these girls on this show are delusional and think they can have it all (i.e. farrah)... And I know sometimes adoption doesn't work out, but there are many people out there incapable of having kids that could in fact provide a better life for the child. Look at the couple from season 1 Caitlyn and Tyler, they understood that raising a child in a poverty stricken, abusive, alcoholic envrinoment with criminals (and it wasn't addressed but her mom looks like a meth head) isn't the best situation, and add being a young teenager in the mix, it's impossible. Babies don't ask to get born, its unfair to them to be put in sh*tty situations.
I did feel for this girl with the whole blood relative thing, but could she have done it? Maybe, was this a better option? Probably, that dude wasn't going to stick around no matter what he said, he was probably involved on the side with his female roomate.
It is the most selfless act a person could do, and I give anyone in that situation credit for doing it.

Yeah, getting your vagina cut down to your asshole only after its been torn partially from pushing a 14 inch in sphere (and then wider shoulders) out of a hole thats been dilated 7-10 cm is way better than just having a C-section.
On the upside, C-section babies have perfect, non lumpy heads.

That's after multiple C-sections.
But oh my god you guys act like once the girl pops those things out of her vagina she should know exactly how to be a good mother. She was 17, and by the end of it, she clearly knew that she made a big mistake, I hate to break it to you but after you have kids, you're kind of selfish with them, of course she didnt want to let them spend the night with him, did you see her after she left the hospital?
And to call her negligent? Really? What the fuck did she do that was so negligent? Again, you dont automatically get that whole "motherly instinct" bullshit after giving birth, you have to grow up and mature to become a mom.

It can cause problems after 1 c-section. I'm a Nursing student and am currently studying in the maternity ward, haha. We learn this everyday.
I never said she should know exactly how to be a good mother. I know that you're "selfish" with your kids, but she wouldn't let him take the babies at all. She eased up at the end of the episode, but she's still being ridiculous. Considering she's in school all day and he wants to watch the babies, there's an entirely different level of selfishness there, that lies in her being resentful of him moving on, not in the babies whatsoever.
She is negligent. She's not letting her children spend time with their father, even while she's not around to take care of them. She's leaving her kids with her parents, who probably spend the most time with them. It seemed pretty obvious when watching the episode that she wasn't spending a whole lot of time with them. I'm around teen moms at least 3 times a week, I know the way they think, and a lot of them do have the "motherly instinct" - what do you think instinct means?

Yes it can that doesnt mean that it always does and those problems are way more likely to happen after multiple c-sections of women with multiple children, not someone with one c-section and one or two children. I've had to learn the same shit too.
You're acting like she should know how to be a good mom and know exactly everything about sharing her twins with her ex, that takes time, there are 30 year olds who dont even know how to do that.

I didn't act like she should be a good mom? I think you're reading way too far into my short explanation. Since he's fully supporting the babies financially, he technically has rights to the kids anyway, so if he took her to court, she'd end up sharing custody whether she liked it or not.
She said she went back to school? Actually, she said she was happy to be in school so she could have a break. When they went to dinner he asked for time with them, and she denied it. But, even so, I did say at the end of my post that she eased up.
It's hard to see things from a different perspective when they're on television showing one side. I just said I don't feel bad for her, which I don't. You trying to tell me how she feels, especially when you don't know firsthand, isn't going to change my thoughts on the topic.

Most parents are happy to have breaks from their kids, that doesnt make them bad or negligent in any way, but her taking that week off means that she most likely took more time off after those cameras left.
I know it is but then you have to think that they're probably editing out a lot from both sides. I wasnt telling you how she feels nor was I even trying to, the only thing I was trying to say is that sometimes your (and most other people's) comments in here about the moms are harsh as if they should know exactly what to do right off the bat.

That dumb bitch had no idea that her 'baby-daddy' actually had his head screwed on right and wanted to do good for her and the kids. She instead tried to fuck around with that ugly ex-boyfriend of hers, which when (WHAT A SHOCK) 'baby daddy' had a problem with that, she tried to keep the kids from him, which is a complete and total mother-fucker move.

Really? I saw that coming when she left the hospital without them, it was a bitch move, but of course she's going to be possessive, have you not met a mother of infants who wasnt at least hesitant about handing her newborn over to spend the night with someone else?
Personal feelings about who was less attractive aside, she was on the fucking rebound when she met him, she had gotten out of a 3 year relationship and then just got knocked up with twins. Just imagine going from being with someone since you were 14, to having twins with practically a stranger at 17 uh...wow yeah you're going to want to go back to the other guy because you're going to want things to go back to the way they were before (she even said that before she gave birth), and that was fucking obvious after she gave birth.

I agree with the bolded, but she had kids. All of that changes. You have to stop being a child when you have a child. I know it's not instant, doesn't stop her from seeming like a total bitch in that entire episode.
As well, I wasn't happy she was crying (maybe a little), I was happy she realized she fucked up. Most of those episodes end with the asshole-party thinking they were totally in the right. At least she grew up a bit.

Farrah is so rude. She calls her dad by his name, and he is the nicest guy ever.
Amber needs to take off her sunglasses when she gets her spray-on tan.
Maci is a good mom. You can tell because her kid is well behaved.

I'm glad Amber isn't pregnant again. (I put the spoiler in case no one wanted to be surprised.)
And now, I feel bad for Farrah getting hit in the mouth a little bit.
Fuck Farrah, the scene where she was ignoring her baby, and getting mad at her for crying was ridiculously sad, fuck that cunt.

There's actually nothing wrong with ignoring your baby when she won't stop crying, if done right.

Believe me, I know, I have a 9 month old, but not how she was handling it, she turned off the lights as a punishment, haha

Ryan is hot, and Bentley is adorable, but Ryan's such a douche. A passive, selfish, childish douche. Maci is the best mom. I have so much respect for her because she tries so hard for her family and her kid.
Farrah is such a bitch. Maybe your baby wouldn't cry if you actually took care of it once in a while. She's way too shallow.
Amber, meh. It was her own fault with the pregnancy scare.
Really, the only girl I care about it Maci.

Farrah's mom has been a better mother to Sophia.

There are things I dont think I'll like about this season. I have a thing against people introducing their kids to their boyfriends or girlfriends before a certain time (but thats just me). But I'm glad that Catelynn and Tyler get a chance to see their kid finally, I'll be excited to see that.

I call my dad by his name, I've been calling him by his name since I was 3. From what I caught, he wasnt around a lot when she was growing up, he was traveling because of work or whatever (if you remember her episode, he was gone when she was giving birth)...
All the kids are well behaved.

Yeah, I forgot he wasn't around. Either way she is very disrespectful. I sure would like to know what the fight was about.

Pretty much.
Farrah is a selfish bitch, Amber needs to just end it with Gary, and Catelynn needs to give Tyler some room.
Maci is the only normal one.

Catelynn and Tyler creep me out so much. Not only are they now siblings, but their obsession over the kid that they aren't even raising is inappropriate imo. It's not like they aren't going to have many more opportunities to have babies together…

There are shows like this now? I've heard of 16 and Pregnant but I never bothered to watch it.
Why does anyone care? Sorry to be a prick and the one to say it, but it just seems like anything reality TV can get it's hands on it makes a show about.

obsession over their kid is inappropriate!?!? are you kidding me? it was a very difficult decision to give their little girl up for adoption... of course they miss her and want to talk about her and wonder how she's doing... i can't even believe you even said that.

well I said it. They're completely obsessed with a child that really isn't even in their lives. It's understandable that they love her but to get tattoos for her and constantly think about her and talk about her, that's weird. When are they going to let go

Oh yeah, its a child, not a puppy, but you're right, they should completely forget about the thing they carried and bonded with for 9 months/share their dna with and never ever talk about her...after all, they were kids when they had her and its only been a year but fuck yeah you're totally right they're inappropriately obsessed with some random ass kid.

:-0 Right, because worrying about something that they created and didn't want to let go of is completely creepy. Lock them up for caring about their own child, they've got no right to be so upset.

That's a pretty common thing for kids to do. It's considered "self-regulating" which means the toddler is unlikely to hit their own head hard enough to injure themselves. Most experts will tell you not to give the child attention when they do it, since it will probably reinforce the behavior. You only need to intervene if the child is seriously injuring itself, or doing it constantly throughout the day.

I couldnt ever really handle that. I used to watch my roommate's kid (who was 2 turning 3) and when she would mess up on something like a game or drop something she'd get up and start hitting her head with her hands and would call herself stupid over and over and over again, or she'd go and hit her head on the wall really hard over and over while calling herself stupid. Thats what it reminded me of.

So that's what it's called. There's this family who I go to church with, and whenever their toddler gets mad she'll smack her head on the pew for seemingly no reason. Then she'll inevitably cry and they'll have to take her out. It makes me lol.

Yeah. It's spoken word though. This is all in a "bitchy popular teen girl, 'you're a betch'" type of voice too.
'Teen Mom' - Cody Nelson
It was the first day of summer, and we were, like, at a party.
Me and Miranda went there with Bobby, but he was being a dick all night and talking to this other chick from out of town.
I met this guy, he was friends with Craig. He was super boring. Then we fucked, and I got pregnant. Now I'm a teen mom.
I want it to be played over really slow-moving, just dreadfully solemn piano music. To get the mood right.
