anyone else watching this?
Apparently Josh Fields, the former QB for Oklahom State is in it, from the team in Charlotte he plays for.
It's being held in Toledo, home of the Triple-A affiliate of the Tigers (had to get that in there).
Discuss.

i just put it on. this should be good. i like minor league baseball and wish i got to see it more often. i live like 25-30 minutes away from a minor league team (john rocker and rickey henderson are vets of the league this team is in) but i don't make it to as many games as i'd like to.

damn, Kevin Witt hit a homerun. he's got 23 HRs, 63 RBIs in the first half of the year for the Devil Rays farm team and he's actually hitting .287, why not give him a shot again in the big leagues? I know he's been up and been shitty, but what does tampa have to lose?

apparently Andy Marte won the HR Derby last night.

buck martinez mentioned something about him being called up because of the aubrey huff trade. i'm not sure exactly what he said though.
anyway, the main thing ive taken away from this game so far is that anaheim is foolish to employ Adam Kennedy at 2b over this Hendricks kid. He looks like a beast for a 2B and his numbers are insane.

on milb.com one of the headlines said that BJ Upton is going to be moving to 3rd base for a bit before he get's called up later this year to Tampa, where he'll be playing 3rd base, apparently.

3B, really? Something like LF makes much more sense to me, personally. I know it takes better range to play SS than 3B, but his main problem is throwing to 1B. So, it seems like 3B would only encourage his poor defensive ability. At least in the outfield he'd have a cutoff man who could run from side to side to grab his throws.

yeah, i like the OF idea. but if he's going to be called up to tampa there's no room in their outfield, i guess.

yeah, for the future of the ballclub, i don't understand moving Upton to 3B or even trading Aubrey Huff. They would have been much better off signing Huff to a long-term deal and having him playing 1B, in the meantime dealing Gathright for some pitching. That would have left an OF of Crawford, Baldelli and Upton w/ Huff at 1B and Gomes at DH.
Huff seemed like a perfect fit in TB, where he could maximize his potential by knocking those in front of him in. Adding Upton to the mix would only have helped his future numbers.

that would involve spending money on someone, though.

this is true. i had some hope as a baseball fan, not a sox fan, that the new ownership in TB would build around the current talent but that seems to be just a fantasy.

they could so, so good. because it's not like they haven't drafted well, they've had alot of good kids coming up through the system, they just can't/won't be able to keep them.
