USA would be a great fit, taking the obvious fact that attendence and marketing will be higher here than anywhere in the world, and also that the country was 180% more into it this year than 4 years ago.
But I don't think they'd do it. The rotation is meant to keep it a World Cup and not just bouncing back and forth the the places that make the most.
It would be sick if it was here though.
I can already say that it were to be in the US, I will be attending. I still think that it will not happen though. They FIFA board will pull something out and make it for South Africa.

We will most likely have it in the US in 2018, I really can't see them moving it to the US unless there was a huge problem, like the stadiums weren't structurally sound or the government collapsed.

Soccer would blow up in the States if it was here. I know I have re-found my love for soccer after this world cup. I played the other night and forgot how much fun it is.
Its not just the stadiums that is a problem, its having all the people going there. Can they accommodate with all the people traveling in and out of the country. Arranments for fans leaving the stadium when the next game starts when other fans come pack the other stadiums. Having places to stay for everyone? theres lot of issues but fifa will fix it. It sucks too cause i want to go so bad and it would help soccer so much for the US

They have four years to build them, they will be done right and on time, as long as they don't use any Australian companies. [/Wembley joke]
The transportation thing is a waaaaaaay bigger problem and FIFA knew that when they picked South Africa. It was an extremely stupid choice because in four years everyone will talk about how big a pain in the ass it was to get there unline Germany and Korea/Japan. The transportation issue won't stop it from happening, FIFA has just decided that "global presence" is more important than fan happiness.

Australia wanted it as well in 2010 if South Africa isnt capable of having it

If the U.S hosts the World Cup, it would be a sad, sad day for the sport. Just because it's a little bit of a fad here now doesn't give us the right to host the greatest sporting event in the world. Think about nations, like South Africa and others, that live and breathe the sport. THAT is where it sould be hosted.

hey moron, the usa hosted the largest attended world cup ever.
it has all the venues and parking and everything. We also have 110,000 seat stadiums we could use too.
next question =)

yeah the 94 world cup was the highest attended and most profitable world cup, i cant imagine why they would ever choose to make such a mistake again.
some people are just stupid

where is there a 110,000 seat stadium in a place that would be used to hold a World Cup game? You can't put a game on in Baton Rouge where there is nothing for hundreds of miles and no place for the fans to stay, get drunk, act like hooligans, etc.

I was just curious.
They would probably try to have a US game in Columbus in 2018 since it's where the US plays most of their home qualifiers and friendlies.
i think that they would have the majority of the matches in the most of the same sites as they did in 1994, but with, in hopefully all cases, new stadiums (i.e. the New Meadowlands Stadium, new Arrowhead, etc.).
EDIT: http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_menu/stadium_list/100000.shtml
I was curious what was the largest stadium in the world. I didn't realize it was Indianapolis Speedway.
I just thought of this. Most college football fields can't be extended ten more yards. That would be a problem, because I don't think the university's football program would sign off on losing some seats to construction to allow it to host a WC match or three. Just a thought.
Also, Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho (Maracanã) in Brazil is supposed to be renovated to hold 140k, to make it the biggest football (soccer) stadium in the world.
Ever been to South Africa? Its amazing.
I just read a week ago on CNN.com that south africa is considered the murder capital of the world. People get kidnapped and murdered all the time.

The rose bowl and the Coliseum are up there too, maybe not 110,000 but close to 100,000

it has to be in a somewhat sizable city. At dinner tonight i came up with the twelve cities.
New York (Meadowlands), Boston, Chicago, LA, Houston, Miami, Detroit, Columbus, San Francisco, Kansas City, Seattle, and Phoenix (?)
I don't see more than one or two of these cities being taken off the list unless they cohost with Mexico and the final is in the Mexico City place that hold 115k.
No matter what, the 2010 World Cup is going to suck for the average fan to go and see it.

it doesn;t fucking matter. it will sell out just because we have enough people who will say well, we saw a world cup game.

It won't sell out because of that, it will sell out because of the huge number of fans that will be overjoyed by their nations increased alottment of tickets. There were huge numbers of people in the cities that their country played in who didnt have a ticket. They are going to go to the site where their team is playing regardless, it is way easier to corral them to the middle of a park and have them watch it on a big screen than to but them in Bumblefuck, Georgia where there is nothing to do and nowhere to watch other than a parking lot.
We have the best road system in the world (maybe second after Germany), but we cant handle thirty or fourty thousand cars driving to South Bend Indiana to watch a game.
I forgot a city, Philly. So scratch Phoenix from there.
EDIT: When did I say it wouldn't sell out. And I'm talkign about the 2018 World Cup that will most likely be in the United States of America. The 2010 World Cup is being played in South Africa as of right now.
