Well, it can't be much worse than the last album. Considering they're citing The Clash and The Police as sources of inspiration, at least they're starting from a good place. If they could only learn to stop BEING WHINY LITTLE PUSSES, their songs might start to sound good again.

oh you fools are all too cool!
what exactly is so uncool about good charlotte? i mean for shit's sake people, they are the goddamn same thing as every other pop-punk band. i mean, pick your vice about them, but there's X many other bands doing the exact same thing that are coveted because they don't have some celeb profile status.
christ, you rip them apart for only having a fanbase of 13 year old girls. but remind me, how again is this different than fall out boy? oh fall out boy has screams. well shit, that's just mindblowing. i mean taking a shit is one thing, but if you start hootin' and hollerin' while performing said activity, then damn son, what a masterpiece! maybe you prefer suicide-laced lyrics? cause yeah, suicide is something we should all aspire to.
don't get me wrong, i'm not a big fan of good charlotte. i like generic pop-punk in doses, but christ it baffles me as to how much people can crucify this band while simultaneously jerking off to nude pete wentz pics.

Nope, he got it right. FOB now is what GC was about 3 years ago. They will come down. Both bands are just good kids from the suburbs writing hooks and having fans turn their backs on them. If it makes you feel better to rip on Good Charlotte, go right ahead, but realize you're just as big of a sheep as you are painting their fans.

nah dude, I can see where your coming from....but your only really comparing the bands because they have the same fan base, that really doesn't do anything to say its the same music. FOB has street cred with people on this website, they've been around forever and have paid their dues. They didn't always have 13 year old fans like GC. Take This To Your Grave is on a whole different level than GC first rap/rock album.

FOB has street cred? Since when?
They're a great band and (from what I've heard) super nice dudes and totally deserve all that's happened to them but....they were signed to Island BEFORE Take This To Your Grave came out. Island reserved the rights to pick them up if TTTYG did well and, lo and behold, it did and FOB was scooped up.
As for paying dues? Good Charlotte was on Epic, yes, but their CD wasn't a runaway hit right away. They toured that record for over a year, playing small clubs and gaining fans the old-fashioned way, much like FOB did. Yep, that's right, by playing shows and talking to people afterwards. I saw Fall Out Boy play small clubs and there was plenty of 13-year-old girls there (especially at their sold-out Knitting Factory show in NYC in July of '04).
As for which you think is sonically better, there's no way to really argue that, it's a matter of preference but what can't be denied is that both bands had similar situations in coming up to the big leagues.
Love always,
-Phil

i've always felt that good charlotte was trying a little too hard, but i see your point.
you know, i can't pretend like i know tons about the band, but i dated a girl in high school who really liked them so i've seen them live a few times. they were always very accessible to fans and always seemed to pay proper respects to bands they idolized. they never seemed to come across as huge rock stars with inflated egos. they never claimed to be ground-breaking or innovative. and sure they were MTV celebrities for a while, but i don't think any of them were ever quite the media whore that pete wentz is.
guess i just don't understand the intense disdain that people have for this band. like christ, if you don't like good charlotte, simple plan, yellowcard, wu-tang clan, whatever, just don't listen. i swear, people are so damn concerned about their credibility, like they think someday they'll be rewarded for their scene coolness. i've been playing, listening, putting on shows of punk (and associated genres) for over 10 years and i'm still waiting for my trophy. but then again, i did once play a blink-182 cover at a talent show. probably dicked myself over there.

I think I have your trophy actually. I'm holding it hostage until you play a Bright Eyes cover at the same talent show next year. Because, you know, coolness IS important. (pausing to wipe black dyed hair out of my eyes that I will then shake my head and it will fall right back into place).

do you know what pretentious means? there was nothing "pretentious" about her comments or mine (or phil's). seeing as you obviously have no idea what it means, let me spell it out.... hating, judging, or forming an opinion on a band based solely on the # of records sold because you feel that you have reached some elite scene status is "pretentious". (which is exactly what i was addressing, dipshit)

GC have actually been a band longer than FOB. GC have been a band for 11 years, it took them 4 years of just playing shitty clubs in Maryland to even get attention. Then they got opening slot on an East Coast tour with Lit in 1999, and they got to play a couple dates with blink-182. During that tour, they gave an ex Philly rock station called Y100 their demo tape of "Little Things". It won Y100's nightly "cage match" competition about 7 nights in a row before it retired. If your trying to say FOB worked for their fame and GC didn't- your just wrong. FOB were a band for 2 years before they signed to an indie and released their 1st album. I mean, I like FOB and all, but what the hell do you mean by "street cred"?. You mean "scene cred" with a bunch of emo pussies? WOW that really counts for something. Next time you attack a band, maybe you should KNOW about them first.

Came here to see how much GC were bashed on...and yeah, ppl still bash on them like the good ol' days. Though I dunno why ppl take it upon themselves to profess their hate towards bands
Uh, for the same reason people love some bands. People hate Good Charlotte, so they say so. People love another band, so they say so. It's not a big deal. Honestly I think GC is a piece of shit. But who really cares, because it's not like my opinion is going to change the mind of thousands of people who DO like Good Charlotte. I mean whatever, they have the right to. Just like you (not referring to you Moatilliatta, just people in general) like Dying Fetus or whatever.

Yes! I can't wait for this. It's been too long! Now if only we had an update on Simple Plan...

As I read through some of these posts, I see how people try to say people ragging on GC over FOB/MCR/etc. is hypcritical, but maybe (and this could very well just be me here) bands like FOB/MCR make better music than GC ever has, yet attracts the same fans as any popular pop-rock band would/does.
I absolutely dread the personalities of Joel and Benji, and I think they write terrible music, but any band that becomes popular and has a few cute boys in it will pull in 13-year old fans no matter what. Hell, bands that are respected a great deal by many people pull in the 13-year old fans as much as "formulaic money makers" like FOB, SP, GC and MCR all do. It's just a matter of taste, because face it - no matter how good a band is, if they get incredibly popular, teenagers will hear about it and follow suit in order to be cool. If that's what makes you decide to hate them, so be it. I just hate Good Charlotte, because their albums get old fast and their whole pop-punk/hip-hop/goth shtick is a real bore, and seems pretentious and like a big kick in the face to the general population.
That's my rant.

Good Charlotte's first 2 albums > Underoath, Brand New, Panic! At The Disco, Cute Is What We Aim For, any other generic "scene" bands
