the world of politics has been a real downer for me as of late.....i'm sure obama will give a passable or even great speech but speeches alone don't get us out of iraq and afghanistan, put wall street back in it's place, build a green infrastructure, renegotiate free trade agreements, balance the budget, end the war on drugs, put as much money into our schools as we do prisons, and heal the sick.
Gonna have to watch it on Youtube (won't be around until 9:30). Hopefully it'll be up soon after it airs.

OBAMA: He called for action by the White House and Congress "to do our work openly, and to give our people the government they deserve."
THE FACTS: Obama skipped past a broken promise from his campaign -- to have the negotiations for health care legislation broadcast on C-SPAN "so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies." Instead, Democrats in the White House and Congress have conducted the usual private negotiations, making multibillion-dollar deals with hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders behind closed doors. Nor has Obama lived up consistently to his pledge to ensure that legislation is posted online for five days before it's acted upon.

Pelosi doesn't think the Pentagon should be immune: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/32094.html
"Pelosi, an early Iraq War opponent who has championed increases in domestic spending programs, told POLITICO that it’s “hard to make the case” to completely exempt the Pentagon from a spending freeze, saying that there has to be “some room” to cut “5 percent” from the defense budget by targeting waste among contractors and the sprawling defense bureaucracy..."
I'd say more than 5%. This portion of the budget is an even bigger blackhole than our healthcare spending. Billions is wasted by the Pentagon and COUNTLESS defense analysts have made the claim that the Defense budget needs to be slimmed and that there needs to be a lot more oversight. For instance, this new trend to hire contractors to secure military base gates. We have military police. Why do we need to hire these for-profit entities to do what the military can already do? The same goes for cooks. The same goes for contracting out base housing to property management companies. So on and so forth. It's not fiscally responsible at all.
