:edit:
On his last day at BU, Dr. Zinn ended class 30 minutes early so he could join a picket line and urged the 500 students attending his lecture to come along. A hundred did so.

I haven't been sad like this in a while. He was a great man. Rest in peace, Mr. Zinn.

My APUSH teacher loves this guy. She is going to be so sad. A People's History is like the bible for her. I'm reading it right now for APUSH.

Zinn's contributions will linger for many years in the underbelly of social & political conscience. He hasn't died in the slightest.

Shame they only read his work in AP classes, those are the kids who were most likely to read about the stuff on their own...

I loved his books. I was lucky enough to read them in high school and in college. Here's a great article about the impact of Zinn and his friend Noam Chomsky, a man I greatly admire.

The one true U.S. Historian. RIP
that is simply untrue, there are many great U.S. historians and to say otherwise is extremely ignorant.
His revisionist contributions to the overall U.S. historical historical narrative were extremely meaningful as his works were highly accessible to the general public. His ability to challenge people's thoughts and historical paradigms outside the realm of classrooms and academic venues are what set him apart from other historians. The things he said and wrote were not all that different from what many other revisionist historians said. He simply presented his views in a manner more accessible to the general public and as a result is held in much higher esteem by the general public. No more, no less.
he will be greatly missed as his impact was widespread.

Thanks for the response, but I wasn't being literal. His mass appeal and unbiased approach to U.S. history was what sets him apart in my mind.

We're not going to read A People's History of the United States in my APUSH class. I'm disappointed, even if I've already read it.
Wow though what a great historian.

sorry, i didn't pick up the sarcasm. I've often times come across people who actually believe what you said. So, hearing stuff like that generally grinds my gears since i have a degree in history.
