Hey everyone, I want to buy a Les Paul Studio, but I can't find the one I want anywhere. I want the ebony one, but with the gold knobs and white pick guard. When I search for the ebony LP studio, all I can find is this: http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/2/6/0/273260.jpg

The one I want is the regular non studio ebony:

One of the reasons I ask about this is because I know Ryan Key of Yellowcard uses LP studios, not standards, but he's playing the one I want. Am I wrong or is that a studio?

best advice I can give is buy used. I know it doesn't really answer your original question, but you get so much value for what you pay.

I'm not really sure what kind of Les Paul that is, but I think it might not be a Studio. It looks like it doesn't have any binding, which is similar to the studio, but it also has P90 pickups which a Studio wouldn't be routed for. I'm really not sure though, there aren't many chances to get a good look at it in the video. Also, the one in the second picture you posted looks more like an LP Standard or Classic. I definitely second the suggestion of searching around for a good used deal though.

Pickguards and knobs are relatively cheap, and easily reversible. If you can find the right guitar without the right pickguard/knobs, then you should just buy it and replace them yourself.

You could always buy a Studio and put on a new knobs and pickguard yourself. It would take about 5 minutes to put them on yourself.

Edit: pat just snuck that in on me, ha

The guitar he used in that video was a Gem Series Les Paul Studio.

Make sure you want the sound of the P-90's rather than the humbuckers if you want that same guitar.

This. Why pay $1300 for a new studio when you could drop maybe a hundred more and have a used standard that is worn in and feels a thousand times better?

EDIT: Looking again, it's a Les Paul Custom II, with the pickguard removed.

I like the P90s alot. I've been using an invader on my strat for the past year and a half, and I want a completely different sound for my LP. I thought the Gem Series didn't come in black though? Are you sure he's using a gem?

The used standards I was looking at were going for like $1900. It's still a ton less than $2400, but the Studio is better price range for me

Take your strat to a tech and get them to add a push-pull coil tap to your strat. Running the Invader as a single coil sounds so good.
