The Hush Sound is awesome. They remind of Jackson 5 for some reason... or just music from that era. I agree that Mew should win. They need it more than The Hush Sound does. But they wont win.

if you don't know who Mew is, you owe it to yourself to check them out. i guarantee after listening to them, you would immediately realize they are far better than the rest of these bands.

So I had never heard of this band Mew before seeing this thread. I decided to check them out on their myspace and I must say that I'm quite dissapointed. Lots of you people were making them sound like they're such an amazing band that 'deserves' so much or whatever, but I have a feeling that I will never be listening to this band ever again. Definitely nothing special. Who knows, maybe I'll give them one more chance down the line and I'll understand it more but as of right now....boo.

Frengers is probably one of the best albums I have heard in a while...very unique.

It's not that MEW needs this more than Hush Sound, they DESERVE it more. Although Hush Sound is good but they totally rip off Cursive/Eisley. Other than the fact that MEWs singer sounds like Claudio from Coheed (but way better) they definately have an original sound. MEW is AMAZING and I think they should get this. For those that have never heard of this band. They're from the UK and they are HUGE there. They're coming to the US with Bloc Party and are the main support for them. I'm definately going to see them. Listen to Snow Brigade, Am I Wry?, Eight Flew Over, One Was Destroyed, or She Spider. You will definately become a fan of these guys

to address the actual post, i love love love The Hush Sound, and Like Vines is vying for my favourite release of the year thus far, but man, Mew are incredible. one of the greatest live experiences you'll witness.

Look at some past winners, for god's sake:

- Cartel
- Say Anything
- Copeland
- Nightmare of You

there are tons more, but all of these guys are on major labels now. Sounds like a good indicator to me.

I am basing this on the fact that the singer does sound A LOT like the singer for Eisley and musically has that folky sound that Eisley is well known for. Also Cursives Ugly Organ TO ME has that sound that like Vines try to emulate.

Anyone that I have introduced the band MEW to says they sound like Coheed. Because of the singer. In a sense he does sound like claudio. However I'm only referencing this band because people that don't know MEW know Coheed. You're right I could say Beegee's sound like MEW because of the singer. But would people really give it a try if I said that? In all honesty don't be such a tight ass and let it go dude. You're super elitist bull shit is lame. We're all here for music and our opinions shouldn't be criticized. Oops I'm sorry I forgot they're not from the UK BUT I only thought they were because they won the CAD award in London. And several other awards for best artist in the UK. The Hush Sound rips off Eisley in fact when I played Like Vines to my friends they thought it was Eisley.

Yeah, I would be curious to see how much clout this has, but it is coincidental to me so many bands that win it go on to sign biggies.
