It sounds like an interesting idea...and I think especially since the movies allow him to have more mature thematics within them he could do an excellent job with it. But, I don't read the books really, so I'm not sure how the last two would work.

uhm....that would probably be a bad idea...M. night isnt really an exceptional director in my opinion, however when he writes his own scripts, the stories (other than the village) have been really great.

I think it would be a great idea.
All the directors for all of the movies have all been pretty good (even Chris Columbus, I must say). I think Shyamalin would work well, especially since the books get darker and more evil through to #6. I think he would do wonderful on directing Half Blood Prince. I hope this happens.
Columbus directed 1 and 2 well because he had to work with like 12 year old kids, and he has kids that age, so he could relate to them. Cuaron did a good job because now the kids were older and he had to treat them like adults. And Mike Newell did probably the best job because he knew that they were mature enough to direct the movie like any other movie. Shyamalin won't have a hard time directing it either, all the kids have grown up so much on the movie set that by the time they're 16/17, acting for the movies will be simple.

Most people, including me, usually think The Village was written the best. Why didn't you like it?

The Village was awful. It was completely predictable. Horribly cheesy. Bad performances. Oh, and it was marketed as a scary film, so tons of people were screwed over by that, as well.
I do not want to see him direct Harry Potter. Not because I deny his directing skills - but for consistency. He'd probably go to town with the imagery and suspense, in ways that I don't feel would benefit the series as a whole. It is my opinion that Harry Potter should be a uniform series. As soon as Shyamalan directs it, suddenly that particular one becomes known as a Shyamalan film, and will look way different than the rest.

This would be crazy. The movie would probably end up dark and stylized like Cuaron's Prisoner of Azkaban.
love all of night's movies, can't wait for Lady In The Water (check avatar)
edit: after reading the article at ign, how did PotterCast get an interview with Shyamalan? wtf

i really like his work.
i didnt like the ending of the village because of the ending, i wanted to believe in the creatures and when it was revealed that they are fake, it was big let down

I like his movies... but for some reason, I don't think that he would be good for Harry Potter.

The Village was awful. It was completely predictable. Horribly cheesy. Bad performances. Oh, and it was marketed as a scary film, so tons of people were screwed over by that, as well. Don't know what movie you watched, but the acting was fairly solid in it.
I do not want to see him direct Harry Potter. Not because I deny his directing skills - but for consistency. He'd probably go to town with the imagery and suspense, in ways that I don't feel would benefit the series as a whole. It is my opinion that Harry Potter should be a uniform series. I agree with this though...his movie would be very different than the style of the other films.
i really like his work.
i didnt like the ending of the village because of the ending, i wanted to believe in the creatures and when it was revealed that they are fake, it was big let down Yeah, but everyone forgets the twist back...where she thinks the creature isn't real, when it is (Adrien Brody in the suit actually). That I thought was an interesting twist back.

The Village was his best storyline, so well thought out. Anyone who says the movie or the acting in it was bad, obviously didn't watch it. Adrien Brody was amazing.

Unbreakable and Signs were by far his best ones

He'd be better directing Book 7, since JK Rowling has a twist planned for the last book. M Night Shyamlin likes a big twist at the end of the movie, I'm sure he'd do well with that.

The thing that would bother me there is this...everyone would already know the twist from the book, and they'd be expecting it from M Night....it'd be all but impossible for it to not underwhelm people. IF anyone could do it well, it'd be him, but I get the feeling any twist is going to be mild at best in movie form.

From what I've seen from him, he always is...possibly one of the most consistent actors I have seen in a while

It's not a twist when everyone already knows the ending.

Books that turn into movies are often horrible, especially Harry Potter, because you can't explain everything JK writes in the movie.

Yeah I thought about what I said and it's not very intelligent, is it? I guess I mean the way he directed the scene with the twist would be good.
Either way my comment looks dumb.

A. Why did people think this was a good idea.
B. Whoever thought The Village was an original idea never read the book Running Out of Time. Let me Google that for you...

You are seriously my hero. I read that book in elementary school and I completely forgot the name of it, and it's been really bugging me.

The Harry Potter movies also heavily rely on fog machines.

Related note: I was watching Clueless the other day and Paul Rudd says, "We're trying to get Marky Mark to plant a tree." That was only 15 years ago, hahaha. Wahlberg: award-winning producer, serious actor, former "rapper".

Wahlberg's career has had some serious ups and downs. The Happening though, that's just hilarious.
