Bored on this beautiful Saturday? Well maybe my review (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=3780523) of Over It (http://www.absolutepunk.net/overit)'s new album Step Outside Yourself (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=3780523), will help pass the time. The album hits stores Aug. 29th (http://www.absolutepunk.net/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=826&c=3), and it could not come more highly recommended from yours truly.

That date is so far away. As I commented in your review, I never really got into Silverstrand but cause of your and Tony's praise for it, I'm really looking forward to hearing it.

Advances went out yesterday - I don't like people beating us to reviews over CDs like this. Sooooo, I wanted to get it up now and then I'll post it again closer to the release date.

85 and not a cloud in the sky? I lived in California for 5 years and would take Oregon over it most of the year.

I've yet to find a place with better weather and scenery during the summer than Oregon. Little humidity compared to the east coast, usually 70-80s throughout the whole summer, less smog than other areas, and Portland is an hour from the mountain, 3 from the high desert, and 2 hours from "the coast" (not beach). Beautiful describes summer weather here very well.

they re-did "siren on the 101"? really? i really don't like when band release the same song on more than one full length. i think re-done versions should be kept for eps or exclusive internet stuff

It's probably going to be the lead single. It could be huge on radio/mtv.

I could not agree with you more. That is exactly what I would tell someone.

But at the same time, it sucks when a band releases a record as good as Silverstrand and a song as single-worthy and great as Siren on the 101 and they don't get near enough credit for it, so I definitely can understand where they are coming from.

In 20 years when people ask me what Over It's best album was, I will always answer Timing is Everything. Great hard rock album it was.

^richard is that you?

why the fuck would they slow Siren On The 101 down?

I want this band to do well, but why the fuck did they sell out so bad? They are basically a shell of what they used to be.

this is my opinion, and anybody with ears' opinion also.

You are so wrong its not even funny. Stop being a jackass, especially when you have no idea what you're talking about.

how am I wrong?

Signed to major.............check

changed their sound further than when on indie to appeal to more people...................check

you, so far up Over It's ass it's not even funny..........check

and I've been listening to this band since The Ready Series, so I think I have as much of an idea about them as you.

and for the record, I don't give a fuck if a band signs to a major, but why did they feel the need to write this crap when they could have sold a half a million copies of Silverstrand if they were on a major for that album? Silverstrand was as catchy, if not more than Ocean Avenue. these new songs are sub par in my eyes, and honestly, I don't care what you say to try to defend them anymore.

support the band, not the songs is what I'm going by from now on.

Oh how dumb of a band to sign to a major label in hopes of getting their music out. I would like to see any person in music that would turn down money and the possibility of making it big, as it seems those are what ever person wants.

You=shithead.

Yeah man. You are pretty stupid. Singed to a major to get their music out to more people ... check. Grew as a band and musically ... check. You, a total douche-bag ... check. And why have you been listening to a band for so long if their music is "sub par", as you call it?

Big_Guy
07/16/06, 08:10 AM
Like I said, I have no problem with them signing to a major, but the 3 or 4 new songs I have heard have been sub-par and I thought Silverstrand was great.

why did they slow Siren down? just tell me that.

I semi-respect Tate's opinion on this subject, I just wish he would tell me why the drastic change in sound from a year ago........................and I don't want to hear that they matured.

everyone else can fuck off especially people that listen to The Starting Line.

what the shit? how are you gonna' sit here and cap on this band for 'selling out?' they've had majors checking them out for quite a while now and were smart enough to make the jump when they were good and ready as far as their sound/style goes...they're easily one of the hardest bands out there today, as well as some of the nicest guys...you've got to give them more cred than what you just said out your ass above

exactly my point. they changed their style to sign to a major is what you are trying to say? right?

I love this band, I just don't dig their new tunes and wonder why they are so different from their previous style. these new songs just lost the edge that Timing Is Everything and even Silverstrand had.

no i just meant that they decided to go major once they'd crafted their "sound," or once they've finally reached a style that's the culmination of all their other records

Timing is Everything is one of my favorite punk/pop-punk records. Since then I haven't liked any of the Over It material. I saw them live in May and they pretty much just played nearly the entire Silverstrand record and like one new song which wasn't good. It looks like they are headed to bigger and better places, but I really liked them when they sounded like a punk band. That's just my taste though...
