star wars was my childhood.

any huge fan of the trilogy should see the movie fanboys, pretty funny movie overall and if youre a real big star wars geek you are bound to enjoy it. also a LOT of cameos as it was filmed years ago before anyone like seth rogen, kristen bell, or danny mcbride were too famous. it has to be one of the most cameos in a movie i have ever seen since jay and silent bob strike back

I haven't seen Star Wars but... FotR, TT, and RotK are three of my favorite movies of all time, especially Return of the King. And LOTR is definitely my favorite movie trilogy ever.

I need to watch Star Wars but until then I voted for lord of the rings.

Although Star Wars had Ewoks and a sub par prequel trilogy, I think it still triumphs over Lord of the Rings. It's an undeniable classic and every movie has stuck with me. The same can be said with Lord of the Rings, minus Fellowship of the Ring, which is what ultimately made my decision.

That's hard. If they both came out at the same time, LotR for sure, but Star Wars has such a huge nostalgic value for me that I may just like it more.

The LotR story really is so much better though (even though the movies still can't pull of what the books did), so despite how much it wrenches at my heartstrings to do it, I have to vote for it.

Nobody in LOTR is as cool as Han Solo & Chewbacca.

lotr because the series as a whole is so much better than star wars. yes star wars revolutionized special effects forever. the lotr books are actual literature, not just a story. and the movies are far better.

this. although, if we're talking about stories here, i'd have to say the star wars movies provided a context for some really really great spin-off stories and besides the hobbit, i don't give a shit what happened in middle earth outside of the lotr. i gave it to LotR on the acting and cinematography alone. because of the books, both were pretty nostalgic for me

I read the books in middle school, but saw Star Wars since I was like five. I actually am really interested in middle earth outside of LotR, and I've been meaning to read a few of Tolkien's other books on it.

I haven't had much interest in anything Star Wars outside of the six films, though.

The fighting in the second LOTR was pretty wicked (the last one was gay with those ghosts that no one could kill) but other then that I found them pretty boring. Plus Frodo is such a bitch

Star wars for sure, Han Solo is badass, a criminal but still gets the cash and the princess

Pshhhhhhhhhh LOTR as literature? Shenanigans. Have you not seen the most recent Star Wars film? Anakin's dialogue was pure poetry!

I wasn't old enough to see either series when they were big. Seen and adored all three of one trilogy since, still need to rent the other. What's your point?

I just finished watched the original Star Wars series this week. I'll probably watch the Special Editions of the original series in the next month or so. Also watched the prequel trilogy sometime last month. I don't know why people hate it so much; it's not terrible.

02/15/10, 06:40 AM
No question for me. Star Wars wins with a big margin.
First I am not really much into fantasy. At least not as much as in SciFi. Then LotR is a bit too much black and white. There are no really antiheroes like Han Solo or villain like Darth Vader.

02/15/10, 11:52 AM
The characters definitely make star wars. Revolutionary special effects isn't the main reason people like star wars, its the story and characters. You need no further proof than eps 1-3. I love LotR, but I love star wars even more.

First off, I totally agree Star Wars by a large margin. It's been a while since I've seen any of the LOTR movies, but wouldn't Golem be classified as an antihero? I could be wrong..
