AFireInside are a good band, I enjoy them a lot.

Their new album, Decemberunderground, is medicore. Sure they may of been trying something different but I think it was more aimed at the emo trend(In my opinion) rather than for the sake of music; That's what I think their last three albums were aimed at.

I prefer their original roots, Answer that and stay fashionable was a great album for anyone who loves punk rock. It was punk rock. Since Black Sails Into The Sunset I do believe they have either slipped or sold-out like I said in my above paragraph.

I'm aware that they may not be selling out and that they are experimenting with new things, but I don't think it suits them. I'd love it if their next album, assuming there will be one, would be similar to Answer than and stay fashionable.

Decemberunderground is an attempt to become more mainstream, I am sure, but it is a welcome change since they are growing in talent and maturity and not following everyone else in the process. If you listen, there are some classic AFI hits and then there are parts that will remind you of the Cure and even... U2! It's good stuff, believe me.

I still love A.F.I. Decemberunderground def. isn't my favorite album from them but it's still a solid effort. My favorites are Black Sails and Art of Drowning, but I still love all of their works.

I really love it how people discredit their recent releases b/c the masses got a hold of them. Sing the Sorrow is by far their best album. their old stuff when they were more punk less goth doesnt hold a candle, it's still good. The new album is good, but very pussified, Kill Caustic is the best track, only one that keeps me interested

Up until Jade Puget joined, AFI was just a run-of-the-mill hardcore revivalist band. Not good, not bad. In my opinion, they got progressively better through Black Sails, Art of Drowning, and Sing the Sorrow.

But the new album is just boring.

Aw, hell no. "Answer That" and "Very Proud" are completely generic. What makes it any different from any other early 90s band still trying to bring back the hardcore sound? And the problem is, they dont do hardcore in a way thats at all distinctive or interesting. If I wanted to listen to hardcore, Id listen to the Exploited or Agnostic Front and hear it done well.

Most of the bands you mentioned weren't hardcore bands. Not to slander these bands, but you can't put Offspring and Rancid in the same vein as Sick Of It All and The Circle Jerks.

I think the discrepensy(sp) for me is, they broke through with the hardcore sound, and gained a good fan base, then switched the sound and gained a larger fan base. Good for them for getting more fans, but you have to understand the fans of the old hardcore sound probably won't like the newer sound.

But seriously, AFI is my favorite band, and Davey Havok is the greatest singer ever, in my opinion. The DECEMBERUNDERGROUND album, while it is EASILY their worst album, was the first one that I heard, and it was enough to throw me back through the rest of their discography, so I like to think that I've redeemed myself.
