Hahaha, I couldn't decide which one would be worse; the movie was bad, but if anyone besides Alan Moore actually does Watchmen, it's just going to be so shitty.
There aren't even plot holes where they can continue the story from, unless they decide to follow it without Dr. Manhattan, which would just be weird. And they can't do a prequel because that's semi-woven into the story anyhow. Grrrr.

the very fact that there is a thread titled "Watchmen 2" that isn't some sort of bad joke is terrible.

Only chance the sequel could be good is if Moore decided to write it.

probably the worst idea i have ever heard.
i guess i could support comic prequels (maybe individual comics about the older masks before they were outlawed) but its clearly not necessary. thats the only way i see it not being a train wreck because honestly the stories dont have to intermingle with the graphic novel.

If this is with the comic, I would possibly read some comics. If this is for movies, fuck that.

I disagree. I think the movie did a fantastic job of delivering the story of the book in a way that doesn't get tiring like it did in the comic. It made the story more condensed and easier to take in. Two different experiences, but I'd say I'm more likely to watch the movie again than read the book (unless I find myself wanting to re-read that endless segment of Dr. Manhattan in space.)
A Watchmen movie with every tiny detail from the book would be boring. I was actually surprised at how much they managed to squeeze in.

I understand that both Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons have to be offered first refusal before any of these titles could be published. But if they don’t want to work on them themselves (and Alan Moore is never going to agree)

I hated the first film. Diluting and dumbing everything down instead of splitting it into two parts was the worst thing they could have done. People thinking that the audience at large would have gotten bored or frustrated with the story is just wrong. Look at how well Dark Knight did or how well Lost is doing. America isn't that dumb and they don't need everything spoon fed to them all the time. I think it would have been more fun and fulfilling for people to anticipate and follow a long an thorough and in depth version rather then condensing it the way they did.
By doing that they pretty much cock slapped the fans of the graphic novel and confused the people who had not read the graphic novel. Not to mention the awkward transitioning and poor execution of the complete splice up of the story, which is proven in audience response and how the movie tanked after the initial hype. This movie was painful and embarrassing to sit through. The only reason I'd ever watch it again is for JDL's fantastic performance.
A sequel is completely unnecessary.

I was surprised (not really that surprised) at how hollywood they made it. Whenever someone mentions this movie to me, I instantly think of the scene where the building is burning and full of people and all of those awful, irrelevant slow motion effects they use, not to mention the cheesy dialogue when Rorschach apologizes to Night Owl in Archies Hanger. /vomit
It echoed something of the same feeling i felt when I saw Spiderman 3. Purely awful and gimmicky.
this is bullshit. the generic heroes were created for a purpose. nite owl was clearly a batman ripoff, and so on, but it was for a reason. this is taking a classic graphic novel and what i thought was a pretty great movie and turning it into something that it was never meant to be. as much as i'm attached to the characters and all of that, the integrity of a great work of art needs to be respected. is nothing sacred?
