Newt Gingrich claimed today that the United States is in the midst of WWIII. Considering the missle crisis with North Korea, the problems with Iran, the war in Iraq and the problems in Israel, he may be correct. Has it gotten that far?

First off Gingrich was pushed out of office by his fellow republicans, so seemingly his opinions are worth nothing. Not to mention the fact that this is a region that always has and always will be at each others throats, we just live in a time and age where the ability to send information about events is ever increasing so much so that the previous distances that insulated us from the exposure is gone. Israel not only has the will, but through decades of asinine support financially from the US, has the power to defend herself. I am not sure how touched up anyone is on the history of Israel (being a Geography/International Studies Major I may be at a little advantage), but right after the states establishment it immediatley went to war with five other Arab nations, not only winning, but kicking tail. Israel has one of the largest, strongest, and best-trained militarys in the world (which is almost insane for a country of its size and youth) plus it has the capability of nuclear weapons.

No, IMHO if there was to be any indications of a WWIII on the horizon it would be something to do with NK and Irans support of each other; possibly Israel launching a pre-emptive strike on Irans nuclear facilities like they did to Iraq.
