View Full Version : World Trade Center
Not only do I think that it's horrible to have a movie about this subject ... at least at this time ... this movie also looks horrible. What do you guys (and girls) think?

i really don't know what to think about this...it could be argued that its too early but if its done tastefully it could become one of those landmark films that pays tribute to those who died...its a tough subject since everyone here lived through it....i do like cage and stone though

Nicholas Cage was a horrible choice. His accent in the trailer was horrendous. Other than that, it looks pretty good.
united 93 i bet will still be superior to this

nicholas cage has the worst new york accent ive ever heard
i still have mixed feelings on this movie. i went with my friend to see da vinci code a couple weeks ago and they had the preview for this movie, and she actually started crying. i mean, its a touchy subject (i know people that lost people in the towers) so idk, ill have to see it to make a judgement it hink

I'm not a fan of Oliver Stone so much. Certain Nicholas Cage movies I like, but I'm not expecting this to be very good.

I will probably go see it. But from a New Yorker standpoint, it is much too early for anyone to be "cashing in" on such a sensitive subject.

it's like i said in the last thread, anybody who's been in more than 3 jerry bruckheimer movies shouldn't get to do something as sensitive as this. cage was a horrible choice. i said it was too early with United 93, but i was proven wrong, as it turned out to be one of the best films of the year, however this just looks like cheesy exploitation. Stone hasn't made a great movie in more than a decade.

That's what I feel like. After I saw United 93, I thought it was well made and the choice to use all unknown actors was a good thing to do. You didn't get caught up in "Oh, look what Nicholas Cage said" type of moments.
I feel like WTC will just be going for the "This is so dramatic, huh??" approach. And those moments in the previews where they're really obviously and forcefully trying to build the suspense and drama (the two pep/inspirational talks Cage gives) really turned me off of seeing it. Do they really need to force drama into a movie like this? The way it's done it doesn't seem like it's real. Using known actors (with horrible fake accents) in movies like this is just a bad choice. I'm still not sure yet if I'll see it or not.

I disagree entirely...
I like this point of view instead

This is true...he will never play a beat cop well, just won't happen.
And while I like Oliver Stone normally, he's coming off Alexander, so he has a ton to prove to me...and if this fails, he will bury his career.

Bingo...you nailed why this movie will be bad. United 93 was accepted because it was a re-telling, it showed the scenario and let the audience judge (about 5 reviews I read used that phrasing almost exactly). This movie seems to have already taken it's stance and decided it's storyline will be the cliche cop/firefighter turned hero line. The fad died out after Ladder 49, etc all had their success a year or two back. For what it is trying to be, it seems, it's not actually too soon for the movie, it's about a year too late

Well I thought United 93 was going to be in poor taste/too soon but it ended up really surprising me.
However, United 93 was made to be factual and informative, World Trade Center looks to be just a popcorn entertainment movie.

will just lose out to nacho libre for worst movie of the year.
To me, Nicholas Cage is similar to Keanu Reeves. They're both god-awful actors but wind up being in amazing movies all the time. So in the end, their eye for a great script winds up making up for the fact that they completely suck at acting.
As for this movie specifically, I haven't seen enough on it yet to have an opinion on it yet.

i went to the movies last night and saw a preview for "world trade center." even though i've cracked my fair share of 9/11 nevar forgit jokes, i think its wrong to try and make money off the whole thing. it doesnt even look that good either. ALSO, its fucking retarded and at the end says "based on a true story" like wtflol, if it was based on a true story it would be about the goverment knowing about it and planning the attacks then strategically launching them as a way to control america through patriotism and to hate the middle east becuase they have all the oil that dick cheney wants so he can shoot it up

All the street team kids are blue...unless their also prestigious, in which case, we get shafted :).
Anyway, I'm gonna wait to judge until I see the movie. I want to say it's going to be horrible, but even the previews choked me up a little bit. As for the too early thing...just think about how Vietnam kids felt about Apocalypse Now. And look where that movie sits now..

I don't understand why it is being made into a motion picture when we do not even understand the whole truth behind it. If it is a comedy, then oh! okay!

Yeah, when I saw the preview for this, all I could think was that it was an easy way to make a cheap drama film and cash in on the success of "United 93." Judging by the previews, I don't think they realized how offensive this type of movie about 911 would be to some people.
I would personally be able to deal with seeing it (although I'd be a little bit mad if it sucked), but it definately looks like it is too far "out there" and messing with too touchy of a subject for some people to handle.
