View Full Version : Artists that have good stage presence?

It makes a good band into a great band. Well, at least the shows are really fun.

What are some of your favorite bands that have really good stage presence?

Are we talking about band with good stage presence aka bands that are good live? Or are we talking about a band frontman/woman who simply dominates and commands the stage?

They were mediocre at best when I last saw them, at last summer's Purple Door. Granted, there were technical difficulties that made the band visibly upset, but even so, I would have hoped that they'd make the most of it. A lot of my friends really liked their headlining show last summer (which I missed), but my friend that has seen them more times than I have thought it was a significant step down in quality.

He blew me away at Purple Door a year and a half ago. His set consisted of mostly songs from A Mouth Full of Dust, which wasn't out yet. "Samuel" was a bloody epic closer.

They were as good as ever at Cornerstone this past summer. Aaron was visibly happier than I've ever seen him and the drummer was incredible to watch. It was awesome, because during their sound check much earlier in the day, they played a lot of older songs from [A->B] Life especially,
but Aaron kept changing the lyrics because he really doesn't feel like the same person that wrote those songs.

I don't really remember which songs he played when I saw him over the summer, because his set started at midnight and I was exhausted, but he really put on an incredible show.

I admit they are a very strange band, but I saw them on a whim in 2004. There were about 1000 people there, and I'm not sure I'd ever seen a front man so captivating and engaged with his audience. It was really something amazing to see, even if I wasn't the biggest fan of the music.

Max Bemis is by far the best i've seen.
All Time Low have always been really great everytime i've seen them.
New Found Glory
Andrew McMahon (second to Bemis) esspecially in the SoCo days. (refer to SoCo live @ Ventura)
Blink-182 is great but somehow I feel like they could do better. Maybe it's just because they are getting old because I saw them back in 03 and they were amazing if I remember right but then saw them in September 09 and a bit more low key.
Also William Beckett from TAI... I prefer the bands recorded work because they are not that great live but Will is always brings energy.

no way, i saw mwy before and after it's all crazy, and they were, in my opinion, much better the second time. they have lost none of their intensity, and they are visibly having a good time while playing their awesome music.. seeing them at the door in dallas in july was one of the best experiences i had all year. just awesome.

Anberlin was probably the most fantastic band I've seen live in terms of stage presence. I've never seen a band so energetic, excited, and as genuinely happy to be performing - every band member was having the time of his life. Such a blast.

Maynard? Really? On youtube I think there's some stuff from 90-whatever where I'd agree. At the Big Day Out in '07 his stage presence was quite intentionally nonexistent. Calling Maynard a front man would've been a stretch. I assumed that's how all their performances go now?
I agree with that guy from MSI though. And Dillinger and Thursday. And, not that I'd go see his band now, but Adam Lazarra went alright.
Also, the Killers. The other week The Break-Up was on TV and I caught a scene where Anistion goes to some rock show and everyone in the crowd is clapping and cheering and smiling the whole way through songs and I was thinking, 'man, the director is so out of touch'. Couple days ago there's some Killers song on Video Hits or something and the crowd looks just the same. Except more natural looking. Maybe it's just cause it was being filmed for TV. But it was kinda impressive.

Dr. Manhattan have such a fun show.

And, the only time I've seen Dillinger Escape Plan, they had fire breathers and shit. Which, they proceeded to set all of the equipment on fire, throw it in the Ohio River and completely destroy the venue (which didn't have another show there for 6 months).

This. Geoff got about 20 feet of slack on his mic and swung it around like a helicopter, swinging about a foot from both of the guitarists heads, then wrapped it around his hand, eventually coming back just in time to start the vocal on Autobiography of a Nation. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen live.
