Not gunna lie because I have no reason to; I have been a huge ICP fan for the last 10 years. Granted I was a lot more into it then, then now; I still would call myself a juggalo. Im not gunna sit here and say that their the greatest band/rappers around cause thats a lie. I just think their music is fun and ruthless. But anything post 2004 that they have done is pure crap. I dont like the word Juggalo because it stereotypes into fat kid, hicks, wanna be gangsters w/e. (i.e. that girls prodile picture. thanks hun) Well thats not me at all. ICP are geniuses whether you want to admit it or not and do 500 times more for their fans than any band on this site. And they worked harder than I'ld say 95% of these bands and deserve the millions of dollars they make a year now. If youre a band trying to get out there, I suggest reading their autobiography Behind The Paint and see all the hard work you should really be doing.

God I cant wait to see how many people Quote me and talk shit.

They're book really is pretty interesting. That is where most of my respect for them came from, regardless of how much everyone hates them.

I did used to listen to the music, and still don't mind some of it, but the fans are what pissed me off the most and ended up turning me off of it. For me they were more of a 'that age' kind of thing. I had gone from listening to pretty well known punk (Vandals, Rancid, AFI) to ICP and the like. I just kind of outgrew it all, and went back to punk.

I don't know how familiar you all are with their whole 'joker's card' theme, but this kid in high school legitimately thought God came to him in a dream and told him he was one of the joker cards in person, and that he had to find the other five people who represented the rest. At that point, I kind of felt like this was a pre-cursor to a cult, and just stopped talking to the kids/listening to the music.

I look back and don't understand how I got that into it, but I still think a lot of it is pretty funny and not half bad. They really are some genius dudes though.

From my experience, when someone wears a band shirt, it is more often they are supporting the overall message of a band than supporting their music (i.e. Bob Marley). It's usually a statement rather than an expression of taste. And I see a surprising amount of ICP shirts.

I don't think this is easily separated. I also don't think any of us know the majority of "juggalos" or whatever the message of ICP's music is.

Here's an anecdote. Take it or leave it, obviously. It's a contrived message, and far from subtle, but it's true. In high school, there were these four kids. They were the token "outcast kids." They wore the ICP shirts, loved the music and occasionally adorned themselves in layers of clown makeup. We were all hesitant to interact with them. In a bio lab, I was forced to partner with two of them, which meant that, for four months, I spent quite some time with them. Because of the nature of some of the experiments, we'd have to form study groups outside of class. They were incredibly nice, sweet people who found solace in the communal aspect of the "Juggalo culture" (or whatever), and enjoyed the music. It's not my speed, but I find that they're not much different from, say, the kids who comprised the Hardcore scene in Washington in the '80s (admittedly, from what I know about reading things. Obviously, I was pre-fetus at the time).

It's not fair to take that out of context because it ignores what comes after and misrepresents what I said.

Yes, part of the appeal is a communal atmosphere (which I mentioned in the rest of that quote). I don't predicate my view of juggalos as a whole, rather they're individuals who share an enjoyment of this band and off-shoots and dig an aesthetic.

I don't doubt there are good people who wear ICP merchandise. I think my original comment came off more extremist than it was. That is to say, I do find them more scary than amusing, but I'm not actually scared of them. I simply find ICP more disturbing than laughable. That's all.
