So no one started a thread on this kid yet so I figured I might as well. He recently just inked a deal with Universal Republic. What are your views on him????
I'd advise checking out his song Together With The Sundown, It's a soft really heart felt song, and it sure hits home :-)

He can sing and write good songs. Smile, Happy Looks Good On You is pretty awesome. And that ep has a great title. I'm excited if he actually signed.

I've heard of him multiple times and i'm sure he is good and I know he is sponsored by LTL but I never took the time to really listen to his music. I should but I don't know.
Good for him on signing with Universal. They aren't too bad...as far as major labels go that is.

He's a singer/songwriter who composes and performs straight forward tiny rock songs. And he's already toured successfully without label support. And has a pretty wide audience. I was surprised earlier this year when I saw him with Breathe Carolina. A good bit of the crowd was there for him. Labels sign songwriters like him frequently, see Jason Mraz, Gavin Degraw, pretty much any male singer who puts their name on a cd and can do the musician ship themselves. He's no different.

this kids a douche and is only popular because that's what the trend is now, his popularity will die once the next thing comes along

Seriously. Attend a show he is part of. He's made quite a name for himself already. How is he a trend? How can a singer songwriter artist be a trend? Just cause he is young, and sponsored by elements in this scene?

He really doesn't dude, they honestly don't sound alike whatsoever. Just because he's a solo male act who plays catchy music and is trying to make it doesn't qualify him to be classified as trying to be Christofer Drew. Your ignorance upsets me greatly.

Stephan Jerzak, for example that kids on this website can relate to, could be best quantified as reminiscent of Butch Walker. His music shows the same potential and promise as Walker's did when he was coming up. If you look at Walker's young nineties stuff and Jerzak's now, the subject matter and sound is all very time specific to where they were and are. Jerzak is good and undeserving of hate. It's like saying "oh, you have a guitar and sing! And you call yourself your first name! I hate you!" It's wearisome.

He is not even close to those two you mentioned. Not at all. He's on par with early Never Shout Never and kids like that. Lots of bands tour with no label support. Means absolutely nothing

Stephen Jerzak =/= Butch Walker.
Not even close. And, many, in fact most bands, tour without support. And, most of them do, as you would say "successfully," in that getting signed as a result of touring without a label is usually seen as "touring successfully without support." So, with that thought in mind, he's no different than any other recording artist, in that he once toured without support, and that eventually landed him a record deal. Many people tour "successfully" in getting signed, but that doesn't make them deserving.

Listen to first two Marvelous 3 records and then Walker's My Way. Walker's contemporary work now overshadows where he has been, partly because those records are so old kids don't know they existed. Jerzak is just starting, but he is going to come up nicely, just as Walker did. It's pretty evident.
And the tour aspect I spoke is getting overblown. It's just one factor that drew Universal to him I'm sure. That's all I was presenting.
Edit: Left of Self Centered, "My Way" is just a song on it. That was bugging me all day. As soon as I shut the computer off, it was nagging that I said something wrong.

I'm actually a pretty big Butch fan, so I don't need to "spend more time" with any of them; I've heard them all front to back numerous (and, I mean numerous) times. I've heard a fair share of this kids songs, and he's nothing special. Acoustic 18 year old kids are dime a dozen. At least Christofer Drew tries to differentiate himself with his hippie image. Whether he succeeds or not is irrelevant.

It's predictable hate. When musicians have relatively easy risings to fame (such as Jerzak), people on this site that are fans of many bands that struggle to stay signed to a label/get money from a label to tour, causing them to break up/not tour, for obvious financial reasons, the said people grow a resentment for people like Jerzak who are essentially handed a major label, a comfortable touring schedule, etc. Let's face it, the kid never had it "rough" like most bands do, and people will always resent him for that. See: Panic! At The Disco. Got signed without even playing a show. They got their jabs thrown at them for that (and for sucking live for about a year, some will say more), but the only thing they could do is move forward, perfect live performance, and silence the "haters" by just putting out music.

I think a lot of bands go without being signed because either they just don't have it completely, but there's enough to get a small crowd into them, but it's not in them to play bigger. Other times, I think bands are just stupid and make bad business decisions, such as the Graduate ( why would anyone sign to a label called Icon Mes?) and Playradioplay (why would anyone sign to the no care about this scene label that is Island?) I don't think Jerzak was handed anything. He's been around for quite a while now. I've seen his name coming and going on tours for what seems like a few years now. He definitely put work in. I think a lot of hate comes from kids who are just jealous because they can't write songs successfully, songs that draw people to care. And that was my point about Walker, kids love him now. But it's only because he kept on. He was dropped a whole bunch of times and shit on a lot, but he kept making music and pressing on. That's how I relate him to Jerzak. I see those same qualities. Jerzak's just going to keep doing what he is doing and grow.

"Tries" being the driving force. I just mean that there's absolutely nothing that makes me think of Stephen Jerzak as any different than kids I know at school that play an acoustic guitar/mix their own songs. I mean, NSN basically garnered a fan base in the same respect/ways that Jerzak did, but, I think of NSN as "different" because of an image he tries to portray. His attempt separates him from his other 18 year-old musicians. Jerzak doesn't even seem to try to distance himself.

I guess. It's really just a haircut though. One has a song called "Happy." The other has a song called "Cute." They both mix some electronics in to dress up really boring acoustic songs. Thay both tell every single person who comments them that they LOVE them. They both keep an unprofessional myspace layout to appear smaller than they are. It's like NSN's coach quit for Team Jerzak and stole the playbook on the way out.

I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying they're all far too similar. But, like I said, the only reason I think of NSN as being different is because of certain aspects of his image (hair, pothead personality, etc.), and the fact that I heard him first. I think he was the fore-runner of this whole "acoustic/neon/electronica" fad, but I could be wrong.

I love Butch's new album, one of my favorites actually. The influences are so evident, and incorporated so well. I can't help but think of Tom Petty on some tracks, is that ridiculous of me? "She Likes Hair Bands" oddly reminds me of "The Joker" by Steve Miller Band, I'm not sure if it's the slide guitar in the background, or just the verses or what. "Days, Months, Years" reminds me of "Instant Karma," and the Butch produced TAI "Bulls In Brooklyn," while "They Don't Know What We Know" reminds me of "You've Really Got A Hold On Me," The Beatles version. I love it.

The new album by Butch is awesome. And yes I agree with most of those influences. Didn't hear Steve Miller but heard those others for sure. He's a very talented man and I wish he would get more recognition as a musician and not just a songwriter/producer for other people. I guess i'll have to settle with Stephen Jerzak. I think it was just the acoustic guitar riff, and the part in "The Joker" where the guitar makes the whistling sound...Butch uses that same effect throughout the song, so I think that made me think Steve Miller. The song itself isn't much like it, but just the riff and guitar effect, I guess. But, glad to see someone else caught the similarities, because I included them in a review I wrote of it for school, and I didn't want people to listen and say to themselves, "What the hell is this kid talking about?"
And yeah, Butch is so underrated as a recording artist, I was playing him yesterday and even my dad said he liked what he heard (my dad is 54 years old..haha). It's just great rock music that transcends past radio rock so much, and it's so deserving to be on the radio, because I know he'd grab a huge fan base. But, don't worry, Jerzak's originality will eventually surpass Butch's, and the more deserving artist will garner the fame. ;-)

Its sad he doesnt get the recognition he deserves. My flamboyantly gay boss only has heard of him because Pink loves him and works with him a lot. I was talking to a promoter. A cover of Whitney Houston's "I Want to Dance with Somebody" is a regular part of our live act, but the guy said it was no go because he got in serious legal trouble from labels and such for people covering songs there. Hailey, It Happens. Different spelling, but you can see where people might make the connection.
I like that name a lot actually. I'll have to check you guys out later today. Doing some reviewing right now, otherwise I'd do it now.

Be a fan of our ap.net profile too if you're into it. We could use it. Haha. Good luck with the review.

Haha thanks, I wrapped it up now, I was just doing the last edit. So, I moved onto your band.
I really like "Young Girls Break Hearts," the intro reminds me of Jack's Mannequin's "Kill The Messenger," just the way the piano is played. Consider that a great thing though, McMahon's one of my favorite writers haha. I really like the synth choices, too. Just the right amount, not too layered, but not minimalist either. I like it, man. I also stumbled onto your cover of "Breathe," and i must say, I'm impressed. Think we can get Taylor to hear it in any way?

Thanks, man. Andrew McMahon is one of our fav writers too. We consciously tried to follow his example and The Dangerous Summer's. Which is weird for electronic pop, I know. But yeah, that's a big compliment in my eyes.
And if she ever heard it I think I'd turn into a stuttering mess. If that were ever possible, holy shit...
Edit: We seem to be starting to turn every thread we're in into the TSwift thread somehow.

It's a nice fusing of sounds, though. Wouldn't expect a JM sound to emerge from electro-pop, but it does, and it does well.
We have to blow up her MySpace or something with it. Hell, she caught wind of Butch Walker's, and I think that was through a re-tweet or something. So, it's possible. I know Butch Walker is a well known producer, but, she found it through Twitter, so it goes to show that it's possible, haha. And yeah, every thread, Taylor is brought up somehow, but I don't see that as a bad thing, haha.

Thanks man.
And hmm. I need to figure out a devious plan to make my cover a sensation. Maybe a youtube video or something. Lol.

I'm such a n00b when it comes to Twitter. I don't even know what a re-tweet is.
Is there any difference between this kid and Secret Secret Dino Club?
SSDC is just bad.

Only heard one song, but I didn't see any difference between him and Jerzak.
