Like the Stars - Don't Tell Secrets, I Won't Tell Lies
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: May 22, 2009

Like the Stars, an up and coming pop-punk band from New Jersey, bring some good, catchy tunes with their first EP Don't Tell Secrets, I Won't Tell Lies. The band itself won last year's Break Contest and earned a chance to play at Bamboozle. They have since continued building their momentum, going back into the studio this spring with Mike Kalajian (The Audition, Just Surrender, Ace Enders).

The EP starts off confidently with a short, slower song entitled "Ready, Set, Go!", which displays Like the Stars' love for the music they make, repeating the lyrics, "This feeling's everything. It means the world to me." Next up comes one of the highlights on the EP, "Like a Bad Habit." The song tells the story of a romance, as pop-punk bands seem to do best. It features a great hook in the chorus that will be sure to be stuck in your head.

The third track on the EP, "I Hope You Know..." is another relatable song about "that girl." It's a song for all of us who have had that crush we don't want to let go ofno matter how we try with lyrics like, "I don't wanna be the boy that's crazy about a girl that can't seem to phase me." A little further on, the last track "Hold Your Breath" brings a nice end to the album, reminding us to hold on and remember everything.

I should also mention that the EP has two bonus tracks as well, "Feel Alive" and "Pack Your Bags." Both hold the same speed and are right on par with the rest of the tracks on the album.

Like the Stars hit it hard with their first EP Don't Tell Secrets, I Won't Tell Lies, showing they have the power to make a name for themselves. They have a love for what they are doing, and clearly are happy where they are, and rightfully so. With strong vocals, energetic instruments, and great hooks, Like the Stars have proven they have what it takes with the beginning of a career I am sure will only continue to take them further.

Wow I had to do a double take when I saw this review. I went to high school with a few of these guys, they're from my town. I also just shot their old drummer & his new band on Wednesday for their promos.

It's nice to see their getting some recognition.
