I don't like 3D films, they seem gimmicky (although I didn't see Avatar in 3D), but I think Jaws is one film that could do with a remake. The original is pretty dated in my opinion.

Jaws is probably gun-to-my-head my favorite movie of all time. The acting is incredible, the suspense is awesome, etc. To me its a damn near perfect movie and no one will top Scheider and Shaw. Don't fucking do it. Sort of funny though when Zombie's first Halloween remake came out (another desecration of one of my top favorites) I wrote up a whole paper for my school that was a fake proposal for a Jaws remake ala Zombie's Halloween. It was supposed to mock how idiotic it would be. Apparently I'm a prophet.

Dawn Of The Dead is the greatest movie ever, in my humble opinion. I was dead set against the 'remake,' refused to see it in the theater and mocked those that liked it. Than I actually saw it and enjoyed the hell out of it, its without question the best reimagining yet by a long mile.
Remakes can be done right, but most of the time the ones that work are the one's that are remakes in name only....and in that case the films could be stand alone titles in their own right. The Dawn remake didn't need to have the Romero's title tacted on, and it didn't need the key mall setting to make the film....dump them in a Walmart for example...and give the picture its own name. Then you'd have had one of the best Zombie films to come out in years, and none of the negative will that being a so-called remake of one of the best horror films ever weighing you down. The same goes for a Jaws 'remake'. Just cause its a shark, doesn't mean it has to be Jaws.

Regardless, point is, if they go into it thinking they're making a remake of Jaws, that's fine -- but just call it something different. That way, if it sucks (like it will), the original's name won't be tarnished.

No, I know what you mean, and that was a joke. But honestly, because of all of those shitty Shark movies that have come out in the recent past, I really don't think that any company would dole out money unless it was connected to an already successful movie franchise.

** ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake: The remake of John Carpenter’s 1981 cult classic has found itself suddenly moving forward at Warner Bros. Pictures. The reason? A new script by Allan Loeb (21). Loeb's script apparently nails the humor of anti-hero Snake Plissken while also changing the character's mission from rescuing the U.S. President to rescuing a female senator. Another change is New York City itself. Unlike the crumbling dystopian ruins of the original which were all that was left after a war, the setup here is that Manhattan has remained largely intact but was evacuated and turned into the walled off penal colony after a nuclear dirty bomb was detonated on the city's outskirts. The benefit here is economic as a ruined city is expensive to produce cinematically. This solution, by previous scribe David Kajganich, should deliver a more recognisable but still barren and dangerous NYC that will visually resemble something along the lines of the cityscape we saw in I AM LEGEND. (thanks to DarkHorizons.com)

The studio has hired writing team Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write a new Vacation flick (without the National Lampoon label – perhaps wise after that brand become a by-word for dreck and dross in recent years), which will focus on Rusty Griswold, the son of Chevy Chase’s heroic buffoon, Clark W. Griswold.
Now all grown up, Rusty decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and take his family on a trip to Walley World – the same quest that preoccupied Clark in the original, Harold Ramis-directed Vacation, back in 1983. Chase will apparently appear in the film as Clark, now a grandfather, although there’s no word on whether Beverly D’Angelo will reappear as his wife, Ellen

Thats what i've heard, i never read it so i guess its why i liked the movie.
I'm surprised you liked the film. I hate comic films myself but Watchmen was never a comic, that's where some get confused. It was only one graphic novel published and the film itself for the most part was filmed frame-for-frame right out of the book. It wasn't Zack killing the slow-motion sequences, that's just how Alan Moore published it (ie The Comedian's death).
The only difference was the ending, and the ending in the novel was the only thing that never sat right with me...
If you want the true novel experience, I suggest you watch the 4 hour Ultimate Cut

I have the directors cut, which is like 200 minutes i think. I bought it the day it was released, there was the standard theatrical DVD, and the one that i picked up. When did they release a third edition?

This might not count since the source is TV, but they're going to let Bryan Singer get his untalented mitts on Battlestar Galactica, Abrams-style. The show literally wrapped LAST YEAR. We really don't need a reboot that soon.

Nobody (James Cameron excluded) gets away with doing epics anymore. There's no way they'll give the movie the sprawl it needs to properly represent the book.
you are probably right, but i still hold out hope that it will be at least a decent portrayal of the book.

I think they should remake schindler's list in 3-d and color.

The original was creepy as shit IMO, the rowboat tunnel scene kinda summed it up for me. That, and the "half room" at the end where we saw a darker side of him. Shit was weird.

That's the point though. Had you known who he was when he was a child in the original, then all of the creepy, weird, strange things he did would've made sense. I don't think it's supposed to make sense at those point in the story. So, that when you find out he's tricking Charlie, you are more surprised and relieved.

I recently watched it for the first time on Netflix streaming and it was laughably bad. The effects, acting, story, and just pretty much everything were so shitty I didn't even finish it.
It has Sir Laurence Olivier...
And Ray Harryhausen's claymation is art. Half the CG used up until the 2000's impresses me less than what he could do with some clay and his own genius.
I refuse to believe you.

...the flaw might be in that male kids don't have 'buddy' dolls anymore. Back in the 80's every kid had a doll that looked exactly like chucky setting in the corner of their room, and that's what made it all the more scary....now everyone just plays video games.

Seriously, I think its far fetched tho, just mentioned somewhere.
But as far as Gilligan's, that could be awesome. There are a lot of media sites having fantasy castings for the movie.
Gilligan - Michael Cera
Professor - Jon Stewart / David Duchovney (spelling?)
Skipper - John Goodman / Kevin James
Ginger - J-lo(wtf)
Mary Anne - ??
Mr. Howell - Kelsey Grammer
Lovey (Mrs. Howell) - Diane Keaton
There were some other options for Ginger, and i think Megan Fox was being mentioned for Mary Anne. I'de like to see Zoe Deschannele (spelling?) if she dropped the goofy act.
The casting for Gilligan is a joke, big time.

Alas...Jaws was already done in 3D. It was Jaws 3. And it was terrible.
I don't think they should remake the original Jaws, it was awesome and they should just let it be. But if they're gonna go ahead and do it anyway, I'd like to see some more elements from the book in the film (like the actual way the shark dies and the affair Mrs. Brody and Hooper have).
