According to this http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/its-a-bird-its-a-plane-its-chris-nolan-hell-mentor-superman-3-0-while-preparing-3rd-batman/ Nolan has agreed to do another Batman film
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros is trying to ready its DC Comics stalwart Superman to soar again on the Big Screen, and the studio has turned to Chris Nolan to mentor development of the movie. Our insiders say that the brains behind rebooted Batman has been asked to play a "godfather" role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus. Nolan's leadership of the project can set it in the right direction with the critics and the fans, not to mention at the box office. Besides, Nolan is considered something of a god at Warner Bros and has a strong relationship with the studio after the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Though he wasn’t obligated to do so, he gave the studio first crack at his spec script Inception, and Warner Bros was able to buy it before other studios even got a sniff. While Nolan completes that Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer for a July 16th release, he's also hatched an idea for Warner Bros' third Batman installment. Now his brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan "Jonah" Nolan, and David Goyer who co-wrote Batman BeginsThe Dark Knight, are off scripting it. and penned the story for (See 'FlashForward' Showrunner Exits For Features (http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/flashforward-showrunner-exits-for-features/)).

Anyone who says they don't want another one because The Dark Knight was soooooooooo good needs to get over yourselves. The second that film was over you were already stroking it awaiting the next movie. Christopher Nolan and his brother are working on this film. Some of you act as if Brett Ratner is taking over or something.
Said people will be going gaga when you hear the plot and the first image pops online and you'll jump right back on the Batman/Nolan bandwagon. Okay.

The first one...well made, great origin film
The second one...most over fuckin rated film I've seen since Titanic. Nowhere near as good as Batman Begins. Heath Ledger was in it...BFD, he was good at what he did in the film, but it was nowhere near his best performance
...so no, maybe I don't have high hopes for a third film. So go eat a dick

Never in a million years did I expect to see any antagonism in this thread. I'm usually of the camp that believes that sequels are extremely tiresome, especially at this point in the timeline of entertainment, but Christopher and Jonathan Nolan are quality story-tellers. If they have somewhere they want to take this, I'm hella stoked to see where that is.
And the bit about Superman is great as well. It'd be amazing if they gave Brandon another shot, but it looks unlikely.

I know Riddler is probably the most likely prospect villainwise, but I would like to say I have always wanted to see Clayface in a film, and especially with the end of Dark Knight pointing toward the world viewing Batman as a criminal, it would be prime time for a character who could crank those gears a little bit more.

Who, villain-wise, are you hoping to see?
i think c. nolan could do a crazy movie with hush, and the riddler would be real interesting with his darker interpretations. i really hope they don't use the mad hatter, mostly b/c of the new alice movie (and to be honest i'm not a hatter fan). i guess the only think i'm worried about is using a villain that takes us into the true supernatural, vs the crazy but (maybe loosely) logical style i am now used to. like, seeing killer croc would probably be dumb.
starseed
02/11/10, 01:37 PM
Killer Croc isn't really supernatural though; in his less exaggerated interpretations he just has a strange skin disease and is really strong. It's only in later years that he's become more reptilian and even then this isn't always the case.
Man-Bat, now that's supernatural.

OK, your marginalizing and hatred of TDK aside, the Ledger comment is so stupid, it's borderline elitist parody. Not close to his best performance? He starred about 20 films, most of which he gave good performances and about three where he gave absolutely stunning jobs. So yea, I'd say if it's not his best one, it's pretty damn close.

Hush should never be touched.
Hush is easily the worst Batman villain ever created. The only thing he was good for was bringing the Riddler back into power as a credible threat, although even that ended up evaporating. His motives are spurious at best and I just don't buy the danger he's supposed to bring to Batman. And his introductory scheme was a total ripoff of what Bane did years ago, and at least then Bane had a more legitimate reason for doing it. The only thing I liked about his stories was his effect on all of the other villains. If Nolan uses him, I really hope he gives him a better backstory.

I actually have a soft spot for the Clock King, just because he is such a goofy idea but I thought his animated episodes were really well done. A lot of stupid villains ended up looking like credible threats in the animated series. It's thanks to the show that Mr. Freeze and Clayface are even slightly interesting.
Worse than Calendar Man?
Oh come now, yes, Calendar Man is a goofy idea but he doesn't even try to be anything but a goofy idea. Hush is worse because he was built up to be such a major rogue for Batman and his whole purpose is pointlessly ridiculous. There's nothing worse than wasted potential.

The problem (especially when you get rid of all the "CGI" villains) is that so many of Batman's enemies are just pussies compared to the Joker.
There's a lot of potential for failure, but if the writers/producers are careful, I think Bane could actually be a good choice if the writers emphasized his high intelligence level and got rid of the lame out-of-work-wrestler costume.
Other than him, the Riddler and Catwoman seem like the only plausible choices. I guess Black Mask would fit into the organized-crime mobster atmosphere that Nolan has created, but it seems like a long shot.

Yeah dude, Bane is actually very intelligent. The last film tried to portray him as a brainless idiot, instead of someone who was a very worthy advasary to Batman. But ultimately they were planning on having the Joker again, but with him gone, they are shit out of luck.

riddler seems like the most likely candidate, but it also almost seems too predictable. it would be cool though. i also think it's possible they introduce a new female like harley quinn, she could offer some of the back story of the joker. there's also red claw, though she isn't in the comics either. catwoman could work as well. it seems with rachel gone, the would need a new chick to offer some eye candy as well as a possible romance

From Batman-On-Film.
"From what I’ve been able to gather, it’s looking like we’ll finally get an official announcement for BATMAN 3 this July -- probably around the time of Comic Con in the latter part of the month. As a point of reference, THE DARK KNIGHT was officially announced right after Comic Con 2006. The press release included the title of the film, the casting of Heath Ledger as The Joker, confirmation that director Chris Nolan was back on board, and news that the BATMAN BEGINS sequel would be a Summer 2008 release. I’ve been told to expect something similar this time as well.
Keep in mind that Chris and co. will be doing press for his upcoming film (http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html#), INCEPTION, probably starting late June ‘til its July 16th release. While I’m sure Mr. Nolan will get asked plenty of B3 (and MAN OF STEEL) questions during the junket, he’s said enough about it already to keep most reasonable journalists at bay. But you never know, Warner Bros. may hit ‘em with a preemptive strike and announce the thing in May or June."

I really hope they make a push for Black Mask. He's known Bruce since they were kids (which the series hasn't had a villain with any stretching past with him), he's a criminal mastermind (which would work well since the Mob has basically been eradicated from Gotham) and he's a bad ass.

There are only two villains that make sense in Nolan's universe.
Penguin
Riddler
The first being in the form of a mob boss, i know its been covered before but maybe have someone a little more ruthless than Falconi.
The second being basically an incarnation of the Joker. Los the make-up and green suit, have someone who toys with Batman on a psychological basis rather than physical.
IMO, Two-Face was pushing the "realism" of Nolan's universe. I dont see how someone could be so nonchalant with those type of injuries. Hate to say it, but Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face appearance was more believable than Nolans.

It's his birthday today, isn't it? I should watch some old Dirty Harry movies. The only reason Gran Torino is even watchable is because of him -- the rest of that ensemble is so god awful. Agreed. That's my one problem with Nolan's Batman films. He kind of gave Murphy the shaft. I thought he could have done something with more screen time. I understand, though. The Dark Knight only had room for two major villians. Joker and Two-Face were more than enough. But I think they shoud bring Scarecrow back.

Random quotes from Nolan about the new Batman film found in Empire.
* On whether or not he's signed up for BATMAN 3:
"No, I haven't. There is a point where your just being precious about it and people get annoyed, but the God's honest truth is I work on one movie at a time, I'm only capable of doing that, so my head will continue to be firmly in this movie (INCEPTION) for the next few months."
* On the status of BATMAN 3:
"My brother Jonathan is working on the screenplay. We came up with a story that we are very exited about. We particularly like where we are taking the characters and what the ending is. There are things for me to be very exited about in addressing the characters again, but ultimately it always comes down to the script, and can we make a great film from this? That's something I will firmly be turning my attention to figuring out fairly soon. [This film will be] the ending of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story."
* Would he bring back The Joker via a recast?
"No. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about it."
* On Marvel building a "Marvel Movie Universe" and whether or not we'll see Batman and Superman together on film:
"Marvel are doing what they are doing and people will either respond to that really well or they won't. It's not something I ever applied a blanket rule to, but Marvel characters are very different to DC characters. You've got to go back to that element of 'What do I see when I close my eyes and think of Batman and Superman?' And for me a big part of that is their individuality. They are extraordinary beings in an ordinary world. They are two very different characters, but there's' an elemental feeling of power in the iconography of those characters. To me that's originally because they stood alone, I need to hang onto that in my imagining of them."

The Riddler is a very different type of crazy, though. Riddler is a genius, who wants revenge against Batman personally.
Joker is a psycho that knows Batman will give him a good challenge. Yea, Joker is smart, but not in the same way as Riddler.

DP Wally Pfister is pretty interested (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1644026/20100720/story.jhtml) in shooting the entire third movie in IMAX.
I'd love to see that. Experiencing TDK in IMAX was one of the best and most memorable experiences I've ever had with a film.
don't fall in love with the idea because it won't happen. nolan and bale have said as long as they are both involved with batman films there won't be a robin added to the story.
Plus Nolan has gone on record saying that this is a definite close to his Batman mythos, and I have a hard time seeing how Robin could logically fit into that because Robins story would require quite a bit of screen time, screen time they probably won't have, especially with how TDK ended.

i'm curious as to the direction this movie will go in. considering it's the end of this little arc of nolan's there should be some sort of closure, right? the end of begins has batman accepting and defining his role, the end of dark knight has batman go from valiant defender to gotham's enemy in the wake of dent's death. just wondering how this movie will play out and i'm already getting very excited about it.

was there a plan for joker in batman 3 if heath didn't pass away?
btw, i'm 100% oppose to the idea of a joker recast which by the looks of it isn't going to happen.

More rumors, this time a tad more solid (if you believe it), that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is at least being looked at for The Riddler.

I think Nolan realizes that recasting the Joker would be a very poor decision.
Also, JGL would do a fantastic job as the Riddler. Kid's half-insane as it is. LOVE HIM.

batman 3:
phillip seymour-hoffman as the penguin
JG-L as the riddler
i'd also like to see bane brought in as the muscle for one or both of these characters.
no catwoman or joker recast please.

aw. that kind of sucks. i worry if JG-L can handle a lead role of this kind of importance. i'd like to see him given the chance, though.
i would kill for heath ledger as the joker again.

With this year’s San Diego Comic Con starting up this week, many have been suspecting some sort of announcement regarding the much anticipated follow-up to 2008′s The Dark Knight (http://www.nolanfans.com/thedarkknight.php). Rumors surrounding this project have been absolutely bonkers in the past, but FirstShowing (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/07/20/excl-studio-casting-names-the-riddler-as-batman-3-villain/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+firstshowing+% 28FirstShowing.net%29) is saying “this news should be considered confirmation that The Riddler is the villain” in Batman 3. They’re also saying that the actor currently listed on that same casting grid is none other than Inception (http://www.nolanfans.com/inception)‘s Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He is listed as “interested” next to The Riddler, despite the age listed for the mysterious villian being 35-45. Joe is only 29 by the way. So how accurate could this all be? They want to keep the JGL part listed a rumor, but The Riddler part as confirmed.
Get the full scoop on the “rumor” and the “confirmation” over at FirstShowing.net (http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/07/20/excl-studio-casting-names-the-riddler-as-batman-3-villain/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+firstshowing+% 28FirstShowing.net%29)

Great novel, but I've always regarded The Killing Joke as the best. Actually showed how fucked up the Joker is, at the same time giving him some humanity.
Batman Hush is good. The Riddler is one of the main villains.
Nolan better not drive JGL to real life death due to deep character or I'll be fucking real pissed.
I'd imagine JGL doing something similar work ethic wise to equal/top Heath's Joker character role. They better watch him 24/7 outside of the set.

I'm interested in how the next movie will wrap up Nolan's Bat-universe. It will be interesting to see how Batman can redeem himself in the eyes of Gotham's citizens while at the same time upholding Dent's legacy.

As soon as I saw Jonah Hill attached to the top of that script page I figured it was fake.
I think the Penguin is ok, but Batman has villains in his rouge gallery that are a lot more compelling and will translate to film a lot easier.

I was reading on one of the Batman wiki pages that Nolan originally intended for the Riddler to be the villain for The Dark Knight, but they instead obviously opted for the Joker. Wonder if this is true at all?

Does anybody agree that Black Mask should be in the film?? Not as a main villain, but he fits in perfectly with the whole mob setting.
And as much as I'd like to be surprised by the central villain in the next movie, I'd say the Riddler is probably the best way to go. Although, for some weird strange reason, I've always had a soft spot for the Mad Hatter. I can't see Nolan putting him in though.
