I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight and Shoot Out the Lights are phenomenal records. And Richard Thompson is a guitar legend. I don't think these guys get repped half as often as they should.

Anyone else like?

I became aware of Richard as he worked with Tim Finn (my avatar) on two of his solo albums, Big Canoe & Before & After. Which led me to search around his body of work. I did find bits & pieces I enjoyed here & there, but never got into him in a big way. I'm not sure why, because it wasn't that I didn't like him or his music, just something didn't "click". But it's always a good time for a revisit.

Either of those albums is worth a second listen.Especially Shoot Out the Lights. It's the sound of a marriage imploding on itself. Brutal, but beautiful

That's one of Tim's songs featuring Richard, from the album Before & After.

This is the same Richard who released Sweet Warrior in 2007 right? Trying to remember what I did check out from this man back in the day haha

Never been too keen on the UK folk-rock scene of the late 60s/70s but these two put together some solid material, namely I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight and Shoot Out The Lights.

Yeah those two albums are miles ahead of their contemporaries as far as I'm concerned.

They're quite good, but I wouldn't say significantly superior to the work Thompson put forth in Fairport Convention a years earlier.

Eh, I like Fairport, but it feels a bit gutless compared to something like Shoot Out the Lights.

Most of that scene's output feels lifeless to me frankly, but yeah, the two Richard and Linda records mentioned above are certainly among the more engaging works Thompson has had a hand in.

The only other record I really like that came out of that scene is Sandy Denny's Rendezvouz, (I can't spell French words) but that's not the most edgy record either.

Just saw Richard play solo tonight. Holy wow. He's an amazing live performer.

"Wall of Death" is one of the great "not about what it sounds like it's about" songs.

Another bump because I've been listening to other stuff in their catalog like First Light and Sunnyvista. They were a pretty awesome pair.
