WHAT THE HELL! WHY?! WHY DOES THAT SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA LARRY BIRD! Unless those two players that are not Darrell Armstrong stop being Powell and whatever his name is and turn into Howard and Devin Harris, I hate him. Why would we need to trade Anthony Johnson? He killed in the playoffs and all we get is 3 cast offs? Is he smoking CRACK? Larry Legend is turning into practically Isiah Thomas.

Can we trade Larry Bird? We'll give you our GM and Scot Pollard in a sign and trade for a box of fucking Goldfish, as in the delicious cracker, not the other real fish type. Unless this is immediately followed up by him trading Sjax and Tinsley for I don't know, Basketball Jesus (some new type or actually Jesus Shuttlesworth would be fine), Bird is a tard. Sometimes it hurts to be a Pacers fan.
Anyone else entertained by the Real GM headline? "Pacers To Acquire Armstrong From Mavs." I think the Mavs are doing the acquiring, we're doing the shit eating.
Out of the Real GM thing - "Trading Johnson, who said the team's "culture has to change" at the end of last season, avoids a point guard controversy with Jamaal Tinsley. Pacers president Larry Bird said Tinsley is "as good as you're going to get" if he is healthy in his season-ending news conference. Tinsley has battled injuries each of the past three seasons. "
What...the...fuck.
"Shooting guard Fred Jones could be the next Pacer traded. The Toronto Star reported today that Jones is headed to the Raptors. The deal could be finalized in the next couple of days"
I don't want to be a Pacers fan anymore...bring Reggie back...when he said he was doing house cleaning this summer I now assume either he literally meant he was going to clean his house or he meant, I'm going to trade everyone besides malcontents, have a point guard who can walk one out of every 50 days, having a roster full of interchangeable players (meaning about 70 2's and 3's) and work very hard to anger every fan. Yes...I wish he had just cleaned his house.

Anthony Johnson was the best player on the Pacers last year. He was the most consistent player on the team. Larry Bird is just a bad GM.

that's sad.
i had him in fantasy, he wasnt that consistent, he'd score 18 one game...then the next have four points.

You can be consistent without scoring 18 a game. He played good defense and controlled the offense very well, he usually put in 10-12 points. Plus he was fuckin awesome in the playoffs.

he had one year of being good in the playoffs. they didnt win the series, despite how much he scored, and contributed. the game where he scored 40 was a fluke. bird's not that bad of a gm, you'll be praising him when harrington comes back.

They held on to Artest too long, the thing just lingered for weeks, he should have dealt him immediately or kept him when he apologized. Plus, not resignin Peja hurts, basically we traded Artest away for nothing.

there was no way he could re-sign peja. he was WAY overpaid by NO.

With all that said Caleb, AJ has to be more valuable than Darrell Armstrong and the two scrubs we got back for him. He fleeced Dallas on the Croshere for Daniels trade, but at the same time trading our only consistent point guard for next to nothing and so broken Tinsley can play more just does not make sense. Plus, Freddie Jones is a great, great energy guy that can create with the ball and play without the ball very well, and we're just letting him go. I don't know if we think 5 years $23 million is too much, but I think it's a fine contract for a very good (and young) player.

First of all, Larry Bird is NOT the GM of the Pacers.
Second, this deal was entirely about cost cutting to try and avoid the luxury tax penalty. Donnie Walsh was directed by the owners to do this.
The Pacers will be as mediocre without AJ next year as they would if they hadn't dealt him.

I heard a rumor that the Clippers were willing to trade Maggette, but the Pacers passed because of his back (?) problem. I really wish the Pacers would have made that deal.

What does Larry Bird do then? I think the Pacers will be horrible the PG position unless they use to this deal in a way to acquire a new point guard.

Anyways, this thread was just an overreaction to yesterday cause I was pissed they traded AJ. I understand why they did it, (to make room for Al Harrington's huge salary) I just wish they could have traded someone else.

Larry Bird has a lot of input in the decisions of the Pacers, but ultimately it has to go through Donnie Walsh, who is the GM.
The Pacers are a mess right now with Tinsley and Jackson still on the team. I don't think this team can go anywhere without dealing both of them.
There are rumors going around that they're putting Foster and Sarunas on the market as well. This team is such a mess.

he just wanted to piss you off?
I IND & DAL management decided "hey, if you give us a good player for a washed up one then we will give u the same thing in a few weeks".
Why didint they just do the whole thing with Croshere & Daniels in this, it would have been easier?
Im glad DAL did this, it opens up some roster room where they are allready logjamed. It also lets Harris play shooting guard instead of point while the Jet & AJ play point. Powell is a good player, Marshall was just filling out a spot on the roster, and well DA...hes old. Dallas obviously got the better end of the deal.

I think a team with a frontcourt as strong as the Pacers (Call it Granger, Harrington and O'Neal at the 3,4,5 with Harrison, Foster, Williams and White backing up) can contend (for something), although right now it's Daniels, Sarunas, DA, Jamaal and Sjax as the entire backcourt, which cannot work. They need to deal Jamaal and Sjax and totally rebuild the backcourt. If they can get a halfway decent backcourt they have potential.
Quick note, this is assuming that they deal picks instead of players. If we somehow had dealt Jamaal and Sjax and kept AJ and Freddie I would be on cloud 9 right now, but letting those two go will haunt us.
