When your personal life hits the shit, things take a turn for the worse emotionally or 'the one that got away', gets away what is your go to album? I guess it could be called your 'comfort album'
Personally I have 2 which suit different times and occasions and have gotten me through a lot in the past.
Lucero's Tennessee and The Weakerthans Left & Leaving.

The first one is As Cities Burn's "Come Now Sleep." It sounds kind of like:

The other one is a sweet acoustic/outsider folk album that sounds like:

I have not listened to Jack in years. Loved his first couple albums when in the right mood when they were released. Might spin again this week for nostalgia.

This, I always listen to it when I'm down.
That, and Deja Entendu, as predictable as an AP.net answer can get, it's just my music for when I'm unhappy.

Ahhhh I wish I could have seen that! My dad promised last September he would fly me to CT to go see Journey in concert (minus Steve Perry of course but their new lead singer still sounds like him) and he didn't! I think he took some woman with him...it's only a speculation but if I find out for sure he did i'm going to be soooo mad!

I went the first day and almost killed myself for not going to the second when I found out Journey was there... That is, until I found out it was a cover band hahaha. Then I felt better.

True, though I share it with people in my life who gave it a bad name, so it's not as powerful as it once was for me. Still Top 10 desert island CD though. It really is just so nice all the way through.

Agreed. I definitely have some sour memories associated with it, but when things start heading south, it's almost just natural to put it on.

My senior year was my coming-of-age year and one of the best years of my life in discovering who I am and discovering that my friends are my life. The whole year in my favorite class we focused on existentialism, and at the end of the year I gave a speech on this song, it defining my year and how my friends and I skipped prom to go to a show. I'm pretty sure I cried in front of the class. Really lame story, but I'm glad to see someone else appreciated the meaning in this album as I do.
Formatfun
02/16/10, 08:32 PM
The Format's Interventions & Lullabies is great. Butch Walker's Sycamore Meadows. And... I can't think of another.
Relient K - Forget and Not Slow Down. I know it's a break up album, and I have never actually been in a relationship, but to me it's so much more than that, when I mess up, do something wrong, I just want to learn what I can, accept the consequences, and move on, and this album shows me how to do that.

Aw haha that's really sweet actually. I'm currently in my senior year right now and have revisited a lot of this record and it's funny how it still hits me, but in a different way, than when I was younger. Existentialism is an incredibly powerful song.

Haven't really gone looking for it yet. Millencolin was the first gig I went to in 2005, could never forget them. That video does make me want to go looking for his solo stuff though.

Second album has a couple good songs on it but the first album Lock Sport Krock where that single was from was outstanding and the one you should look for if interested.

Whenever I feel shitty, this song also creeps its way into my head. Real good for some down times.

I don't really have a go to album but it's pretty hard to be in a bad mood when you listen to this:

Whenever my day goes sour, a track or two from this album always finds its way through my headphones and into my ears somehow.

The one song that always cheers me up isn't even close to the genre I listen to, but it never fails. Hate My Life - Theory of a Deadman. The lyrics are incredibly hilarious, but there's an actual message behind it saying that no matter how much you think your life sucks, there's always gonna be other people who feel the same way.
Third Eye Blind's self-titled album -

Everything In Transit. It saved my life, and when I'm in the bottom of the desperation bottle, nothing even comes close to what that album does for me.
Exactly this. Especially You Can Breathe and Into The Airwaves.
