Its just that books cant be 3D, so this has no chance of being worth the paper its written on. As for the backlash to its popularity; things that are popular get more backlash because, to those who think said thing is bad, there is a sort of "am I on crazy pills?!" feeling which inspires a more aggressive response. There is no point to trying to convince someone that something is bad if no one cares about it anyway.

To borrow a phrase from Roger Ebert (though not in description of this film), to call these characters cardboard is an insult to useful packaging material. The performances range from bad to laughable and only Saldana does anything notable with her character. The storyline is painfully derivative and predictable, to the point where I saw everything coming long before it actually happened. And the dialogue was bad enough to make the movie seem even longer than it was. Visuals: 10. Everything else: 5.

No, for a film to be a 7.5 I have to get at least something other than pretty visuals out of. The fact that I really hated/didn't give a shit about any of the characters is the real killer for me.
