just a note; this is the only monthly project that will focus on a topic. upcoming projects will focus on filling in people’s gaps in major directors filmographies

For the month of March, I will be focusing on The Troubles, the violent, bloody struggle between England and Ireland, that started in the 1960s and lasted ’til the late 90s, though many say it never really ended.
A brief Wikipedia synopsis:
The principal issues at stake in the Troubles were the constitutional status of Northern Ireland and the relationship between the mainly-Protestant Unionist and mainly-Catholic Nationalist communities in Northern Ireland. The Troubles had both political and military (or paramilitary) dimensions. Its participants included politicians and political activists on both sides, republican and loyalist paramilitaries, and the security forces of the United Kingdom and of the Republic of Ireland.
Films that will be included:
Four Days in July (Mike Leigh, 1985) – T.J. Wells
In the Name of the Father (Jim Sheridan, 1993) – Thomas Balkcom
Hunger (Steve McQueen, 2008) – Dan Wotherspoon
Omagh (Pete Travis, 2004) – Malcolm Lacey
Fifty Dead Men Walking (Kari Skogland, 2008) – Brad Baker
Bloody Sunday (Paul Greengrass, 2002) – Preston Smith
Wind That Shakes the Barley (Ken Loach, 2006) – Chris Cleary
I will be linking to the reviews as I receive them.

I wasn't sure whether to include Elephant since it's only 39 minutes long, but if someone wants to watch it I'll definitely include it.

I'd like to be part of this, but I'm a little confused on what this exactly is. Is it like 'pick one, watch it, review it...monthly?' Or what?

No. When I get an adequate number of films, I'll ask for participants. People will then PM me with the film they'd like to tackle, and then have until the end of March to get their review in. Go to Dan's blog (http://closelywatchedtrains.wordpress.com) for a bit of an idea of how it'll be.

Did anyone watch their movies? If so, post your reviews here or (preferably) on your blog so I can link to them. I'm going to be making my projects span two months (i.e. next one, Powell/Pressburger, will be April/May) so people have some more time to get them done. If you're interested in that one, btw, be on the lookout for the thread later today. I already call Black Narcissus.
