I hear Brand New has a record coming out some time in October. Does anyone know any more information than that? Perhaps someone who has seen them on their summer tour?

My friend went to a show in late June and they said they had finished up the record two weeks prior. I think. Why is it still taking so long?

What the hell are you smoking?
Brand New's 9 demos that leaked? Shit... Those tracks were GREAT. I hope they rerecord all of them and just put them on the CD.

I wasn't very impressed with most of the demos they released. But they selected like 3 or 4 of them to be on the actual LP, but I can't remember which exact ones they chose. Either way I'm anxious and curious to see which way this album goes.

Demo #6 and #8 were played live and will be on the LP. Also the new song "Take Apart Your Head". All were fantastic live. An October release date was mentioned, but the band doesn't want any promotion of the album whatsoever. So don't expect a news post. I'm sure you'll hear about it within the General/Music forums eventually.

most likely there cd will fall short of expectations but it will still be good

Thanks for the heads up. I heard about this "Take Apart Your Head" being their new single and everything but I hadn't heard how many songs they were taking from the demos... I guess it's good that they are only taking three. Talk about a lot of new material from these guys in the time they've been gone.

no way man, i loved all those demos. in my opinion, they were better than deja. not as good as your favorite weapon though.
Murder*O*Murder
08/08/06, 05:42 AM
Deja is one CD that I will never get tired of. It goes down in history as one of my favorite albums... That and anything Taking Back Sunday has ever put out.
The demos were just as strong as Deja, I thought, but weren't recorded up to par. I hope this CD is better produced than those demos.
Also, heard "Take Apart Your Head" and "Yeah". Such a good song.
Also, is Brand New asking NOT to be on MTV and all that? It's kind of what it sounds like from what I've read... I don't know how I feel about that, personally, but we'll see how their label takes care of them come October.

i don't know, i see em on mtv2 daily...and if they don't get played on mtv for any reason(i mean MTV, like trl and crapy stuff like that)-good for them
Murder*O*Murder
08/09/06, 01:22 PM
I don't think Brand New could get on TRL if they wrote "Hit Me Baby One More Time". They are too good of musicians for that bullshit.
...And, I regret saying this, but if Taking Back Sunday haven't gotten on TRL yet... Brand New certainly won't. Not that I want TBS on TRL, mind you... I just think TBS has a more pop-friendly sound than Brand New.
MTV2 is the perfect spot and an acceptable spot for both of these bands.
Then again MTV doesn't REALLY play music, anyway... So I don't care if they played either of them.
i'm excited to hear it... after writing such an amazing album as their last one I wouldn't be too quick to reckon their next album will be a dissapointment....theyre good at tunes. right?

There is no doubt in my mind that their next album will at least measure up to Deja. They are too talented to fall off.

The energy with which they played the new songs on their last tour...
...I have a hunch that the new album could blow even Deja out of the water.
I get chills just thinking about it.
Shaking with antici..........PATion.

I have the 6 song leaked demo, it is awesome, I also saw them in July, that was awesome they played 3 new songs, they ruled.

That isn't true.
The title they've thrown around is "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" but I don't know if their label likes that...

I've heard "Fight off your Demons", too... But that's been the name adopted for the demos. I guess we'll see when we get more news on the album coming out.

they were just demos. they weren't ever meant to be heard by anyone other than BN and a handful of music industry people, so don't judge them by something that wasn't meant for the public to hear.

not me, it wouldn't follow their 3 years between albums rule, haha.
So who thinks Brand New will have an album out by late 2008?I'm pretty certain they will. Early '09 at the latest, in my opinion.

If they actually follow through with recording after this tour then yeah, I'd say a late 2008/early 2009 release would be reasonable.
Usually I'd agree but they are writing/recording/making the new album after the Thrice tour soo even if they took a three month break which they won't, then they'd still have time to get it out by next year.
Yeah unless they drastically break from the schedule I don't see how it could take longer. What sort of album should we be expecting?

when i read thier myspace bulletin about fork and knife
they made it quite clear that it was definitely not part of any bigger release

I have no idea other than that I would guess it will be another big departure which is a good thing to me anyway. Defiantely no revisiting old stuff and it wont be a cross between Deja and TDAG like some noobs probably want.
I think it will go even futher down the weird alternative route even maybe stepping into avant-garde style indie. That would be mad cool.
i agree with you on the point that they should make another album that is absolutely nothing like anything they've ever written, but avant-garde is a no. that'd really disappoint me. indie/alternative, yes, indie/alternative that starts not to make musical sense, no.

Avant-garde indie from Brand New would certainly be a fun listen, there are really so many directions they could realistically go, I've thought that maybe a folk rock album would be a possibility from them too.

I think that if Brand New did it you may well find yourself loving it. Had another band made an album like The Devil and God I don't think you would have put the time into getting into like you did because it was Brand New. For me definately Brand New has been a band that expanding my musical tastes into new forms of music which I now prefer over all others, I owe quite the musical debt really.
it's been the same for me, but at the same time it didnt really take any effort for TDAG to grow on me, i liked it at first listen. i really dont want them to release something that i listen to and am like... what??
but, granted, if it is like that, you're right, i would listen to it in full at least 5 or 6 times and give it a try because they've been my favorite band forever.

That would be mad cool.Going back would be a horrible move that I'm certain they will never do. That's one thing to rest assured about, at least. I don't want to hear another TDAG, though. Best BN album but I need change.
That would definently be cool. I heard some people speculating that it would be similar in style to "Welcome To Bangkok". I'm not sure where they heard it or if it's anywhere near true, though.
it'd be weird if they made a whole around like fork and knife
theguy77
10/23/07, 04:05 PM
yeah. i dont think my tastes are changing to the point that i dont like pop-punk anymore, but they are definitely ever-expanding. for instance, my friend will just sent me jeremy enigk's album "world waits" today and i reallllllly fucking love it.
I think a Decemberists/Neutral Milk Hotel/Okkervil River folk type sound but mixed with the epic crescendos that TDAG had would be cool.Just us talking about these possibilities is exciting. I want some demos this style, but I don't want to stop the album from being better by getting these. Via TDAG.

I really am so excited for LP4. Not just cause I want to hear it but also because I am just so intriqued as to what direction they are going to go in.
i think all who listen to BN can agree on this one.
except for the ones who want them to go back to YFW. which is a much larger number than there should be.
I really am so excited for LP4. Not just cause I want to hear it but also because I am just so intriqued as to what direction they are going to go in.I feel the same way. They may also get harder, which wouldn't be good, exactly, but interesting.
Thing is though, welcome to Bangkok with lyrics is just You Won't Know and Limousine anyway. That's what I thought then I went on to realize maybe they meant it could be all-instrumental. Lacey can make BN at times, though. Sowing Season was one of my favorites of TDAG and that song was great because of him.
theguy77
10/23/07, 04:19 PM
Hopefully when LP4 is even more out there, those folks will just move on and find another favourite band.
hahaha, i dont know, they've stuck around through two albums and an album's worth of leaked demos. and they're still going to shows for no other reason than shouting that BN sucks and begging them to play jude law. and get punched in the face.

dude fuck that notion. brand new couldnt do without any of their four members.
I love instrumental music but it's not for Brand New, Jesse's lyrics and voice are too big an asset not to use.For Brand New instrumental would be one of the bad ways for them to go. I'd probably rather see it than going back to YFW style, though.

10/23/07, 04:22 PM
TBH I haven't come across many YFW fanboys, mostly Deja fanboys but I can certainly believe people are that dumb.
yeah you dont go to a fucking show just to see the band play an album from 6 years ago and then bitch about it when they dont play it.

Would totally agree here. I think it's clear from the interviews that Jesse done over the past year, that his love of Neutral Milk Hotel has had a profound impact on them musically. When I saw Okkervil play, their songs took on such a different dynamic, one that I could definitely see being a direction Brand New heads, would certainly make for a hell of a listen.

Ehhh. Mostly, but Lacey is the biggest part of it. That's to me at least.
vin was a huge part of the composition of TDAG, and the bass and drums have much more influence on the style of the song than most people think -- ive realized this when my band auditioned for both. songs like jaws theme swimming, and the entire album TDAG would sound comPLETELY different with a different drummer and bassist.
It's just so obvious that is not where the band is at right now. I can totally understand why they wouldn't want to playing any of it and I wouldn't miss it myself.
yeah i mean i like YFW but i would never expect or even want them to play a large amount of it at shows.
