What makes good film? It's obviously a combination of elements: but what is most important?

A friend of mine entered in a video contest. If her school wins, they'll receive some well needed funding. So take a few seconds and vote for Radford University!

I dont think any one of those elements is more important than the other.

Well what I look for most in a movie is originality....so I guess content to me is the most important.

Script. I have no doubt it is the most important thing in a film, to me.

Script.

I voted for them all.

I suppose the most important would be the direction...not just what we are shown, but how. The 2nd most important thing would be casting probably, then the script, then the filming. To me, content fits into directing.

This is the ummm...oddest?... poll ever.

Mostly because of the terrible phrasing and word choice.

I wouldn't even notice that the script was good if the acting was below average. Never seen that movie.

They all rely too much on each-other to answer.

hard to say, but script when it comes down to it.

Script > Director > Actor > Cinematography

Although, they're all of course vital.

hahahahhaha.

I voted all, because they're all pretty damn important. If one of these sucks, it detracts from the movie.

I believe they are all as important as each other, but when it comes to acting and script I think the actors are slightly more significant as a great actor can make a so-so script seem good on screen (i.e. the movie It's Complicated - Meryl Streep).

All of them are important, obviously, but I'd say a good script is the core to any good film. Although they can make a bad script watchable, even the greatest of directors and actors can't make a great movie without the right script.

sdisticsquirrel
02/26/10, 10:12 AM
all aspects are important, but i went with script because a great script can turn someone like Colin Farrell into an actor... ahem... In Bruges...

more importantly, it says only 231 people have voted, but it's closer to 600.

All of the above fuck arguing about it, however who cares all of this is based on opinion. What's shitty to someone could be great to someone else.

this is sort of like asking what makes a super bowl-winning team - quarterback, offense, defense, coaching, or condfitioning

so maybe the question should have been "what's the most important element of a good film?".

phillycheese37

I selected all. OP should try making it a one-selection poll.
